Thursday's "Idol" elimination wasn't the most surprising news of the night. But the nervous girl standing beside the loser at the finish was 16-year-old Lauren Alaina, and that was unexpected.

Haley is twice the singer as Lauren at this point in their lives. Durbin's phoney crying act lost my vote.

James wins and goes on to become a rock star, as he is not boring, Scotty needs to leave now and go to Nashville, as he is a country singer

For the record: Scotty's got a one note vocal range and shouldn't have made it past hell week. If Haley doesn't win it'll be a crime.

She SHOULD be the best singer of the bunch, but her singing lacks soul and she holds back WAY too much.

Both Haley and esp. Lauren were far better tonight than James, who was by far the worst, esp. for the last song he sang while crying. Scotty, even though I'm not fond of most country music, was the BEST by far. Even Jacob was better than James. However, both tend to screech and scream way too much, which takes away from the quality of the song and singer. Without a doubt, James should definitely been in the bottom two.

It's not like you looked up the item on accident. If you know they do it and want to put up with the an hour of Ryan saying "After the break" then stay away from the site until you finish watching the show.

Or, admit that it's a waste of an hour of TV and just come here and get the answer in seconds. Saves money, time and space.

What a stupid statement, duh, let's see who's left:

1.Durbin ........ never been close to the bottom three.

              2. McCreepy ... tweens voting off the hook for him.

              3. Haley ......... who won the night hands down.

So it's either her standing next to the loser or she is the loser .......... ha

              Lusk deserved to go!

Lauren and Haley, scotty top 3 for sure but if Lauren doesnt come out and kick ass and takr chances, she may be next. I hope she does. I would rather her come out and take a risk and miss a note or two and lose then just do what she's doing and lose. Now the pressure is really going to be on! minus Pia these are the top singers.

I took your advice and read up on Aspergers. According to what I read, it is characterized by the inability to pick up on social signals, the appearance of a lack of empathy, avoidance of eye contact, delayed motor development, etc. I didn't read anything about it causing overly emotional reactions/crying.

                #3.2 - Fri May 6, 2011 1:30 PM EDT

Really people are attacking him for being emotional. And we wonder what's wrong with this country. It's obviously a SIN for a man to cry. If I hadn't recorded the show, I would have voted for him because he did a good job! Singers like even Steven Tyler GET EMOTIONAL ON STAGE. Sheeesh. Are you going to diss him?? :\

I'm glad James is still holding strong, I'm a fan but in the end I want Scotty to walk away the winner because he has an incredible voice that would make the great Johnny Cash proud!

It should come down to Haley and Scotty in the final two.

Lauren should go next and then James. Just not enough natural singing talent to match Haley and Scotty.

Not suprised in the least about the results. It was time for Jacob to go, obviously. I think Lauren's shelf-life is about up as well. As I pointed out in last night's post, Lauren doesn't have the range or vocal skills to stay in this competition. The fact that the Judges and Iovine are having to ask her to sing the "money" notes still, with 3 wks. left, is a bad sign. Her last few songs have sounded like "very good" karaoke. Her voice is simply not mature enough yet, and judging from the waterworks everytime she's in a tight spot on the show, perhaps she isn't either.

I'm not a hater, jus pointing out some differences between she and Haley, who hasn't gotten her just due until lately. The judges, America and Iovine are finally getting it.

It really should be Haley and Lauren in the finale. James has been slipping for several weeks. While Scotty has a good sound that is going to end up on CD one way or another, he doesn't have much of a range, and his performance only just recently became remotely interesting.

Haley definitely blows them all out of the water though. I don't know if it's a contest by the judges to be as unhelpful as possible with their awful advice about her version of "You and I".

None of them was anywhere near Pia in talent. After she was voted off (once again proving Americans have NO taste in music), none of the singers left came anywhere near the quality of Pia's voice. Switch to 'The voice' if you want to hear talented singers... my prediction is that Idol will be shut down. On a positive note, have really enjoyed Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez as judges but they need to give more honesty... the screeching and straining in a LOT of the performances is obnoxious.

Two times this week Justice was done! First Osama got killed and JACOB got voted off Idol finally. Every seasons there are a couple fo people that yu watch track thorughthe competition and when others get voted off, you hit your forehead and say WTF to yourself. How Stephano lasted so long is beyond my comprehension, but how Jacob survived even the first week is another head turner. My god, he doesn't even know what a hotdog tastes like! and he showed his true colors when he celebrated being the two finalists to make an omelet. Shades of batman! Maybe he would do better in San Francisco... They love people who can dress up and oversing songs! HA Way to go America, Ya finally got it right! No chance of the no-talent Ruben II winning this year! The good news is that the final four are all atlented in their own way... so anyone who wins now will be great!

Haley sucks..get over it. Actually not one of these so called "idols" will be around in a year. They will be on the same cast-off island with Reueben, Taylor Hicks, Chris(forgot his last name) and the other winners from the past that basically faded away. Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson are the lucky ones.

You must be thinking of Kris Allen. Although, you could be talking about any one of the seven winners that are not Carrie Underwood and Kellie Clarkson. And I don't know how much credit I'd give Idol for either of those two.

I'm kind of tired of people ragging on James for crying during his song.

Yes, his emotions go the best of him. Yes, it affected his singing.

But, the best part of it was it was DIFFERENT. It was a huge change of pace, and a huge change for James performance-wise. It was refreshing to watch, & anyone who also has been separated from their significant other and child(ren) will completely relate to what James was experiencing during that song.

Maybe not the best song choice for him if it upset him that much, but for me personally, that song evoked such emotion that I don't get from listening to the other singers in the competition AND on the radio. It made him vulnerable, it made him human. It made him REAL.

Perhaps James will return to his rocker side this coming week. He's about due for another rockin' performance.

Nancy, that might be one of the most absurd things said about this years Idol. Casey is not the most talented that has been on Idol. The guy could hardly sing...

I can understand the argument that he might be the most versatile musician. But the man HAD to showcase that to make it as far as he did. If the show only let contestants sing, no guitars, no pianos, no instruments period...he would be in the bottom 5% of singers who have made it to the top 24 over the 10 years of Idol. But I do also understand the that the show initially started as a "singing" competition, and like a lot of things, it has evolved to accept lesser singers and allow "artistic" performers like Casey to have a chance on the show. But most talented ever on Idol, that is grossly idiotic. Tim Halperin was a more talented musician than Casey, just in season 10.

And to SFS, James deserves some flak for crying during his performance. The singing was atrocious...in both performances. Even when he "rocks out" it's bad. His rock and even his crying seem disingenuous. Over the top. Almost as if he's just playing the part of rocker. I mean come on...fire on the piano, a drumline, CRYING!? You want to watch someone genuinely rock out, go back and watch Adam Lambert in his rock performances on Idol.

As for me, Lauren is by far the most talented this year, vocally. She JUST turned 16, give her a little time. James was a man who got by doing Kaoroke and small gigs, Jacob sang with his church and as we found out sang with Nate Dogg. I don't have any idea about Haley's previous performing experience, and Scotty seems to be a natural with his presence and charisma...as cheesy as it may be. She needs a little seasoning and experience, but she's most talented vocally.
                        That's my 2 cents.

Thank goodness he's gone! Jacob should have gone weeks ago. Lauren should be next; while she has a sweet voice, she simply doesn't seem to have the lung capacity to get in and out of a phrase. But, next week could be dangerous for Scotty, as I suspect Lauren and Scotty split the tween, granny and country vote.

Haley, James and Scotty to he finish. But it doesn't matter; Scotty and James will have their choice of contracts, win or lose.

What do you think all the "contract negotiation" was about? She was trying to determine if her single and album would be ready to drop during the season production. When her producers said they would be she had her "change of heart" and accepted the shows offer.

It is show BUSINESS after all.

After Casey Abrams left i had no desire to watch again...The ONLY BIG VOICE and TRUE TALENT left is Haley...

YOU GO GIRL! (i'll read about the Idol outcome on MSNBC) Also, 16 year old girls are deciding the IDOL outcome almost every year and have ruined the show

"THE VOICE" is gonna WIPE IDOL OFF THE MAP!!!

I agree that it was time for Jacob to go, and despite the fact that I like Lauren she did deserve to be in the bottom 2. Her lack of confidence is showing and though Jimmy said it about Jacob, clearly the same goes for Lauren. Lack of confidence will kill her chances of winning it all. I thought James did a good job, maybe not the greatest performance but he's my favorite guy. I do like Scotty, not sure if he should win it all but he did have the best performance of the guys on Wednesday. Haley, well she blew everyone out of the water with both performances. If Lauren doesn't step it up, she'll be the next to go. I predict the final 2 will be James & Haley.

Haley is a much better singer than Lauren. However, I don't think the judges like her. Lauren certainly deserved more criticism for Unchained Melody - she missed the big notes and had a really serious bobble.

I loved James at the beginning but he wore on me. It was past time for him to go.

The final will probably be between James and Scotty.

"Missed the big note"? That song exists to have that note! Without that note it's a sanguine mess of syrupy drivel (as you saw when she failed to hit it).

You cannot, simply cannot sing that song without that note. And you surely can't sing that song and then give up on THAT note halfway through like she did. That's unforgivable.

Except of course in the face of what Jacob did to his first song. That last run was just nauseating.

Jacob was definitely the right one to go. The final four are all really good and I can see any one of them winning. Someone had to be in the bottom two with Jacob. It would be difficult to see any one of the four in the bottom, but that's where the competition is now. I'm not looking forward to the next elimination.

Haley is the ONLY TRUE GREAT VOICE LEFT...but Casey should have won the whole thing!

I can no longer watch a show where the outcome is decided by 16 YEAR old GIRLS!

My only saving thought is that now Casey won't be stuck in a contract with 19 and he'll be able to make an album worthy of his talent. He won't end up like Taylor Hicks, forced to make a failure of a pop album regardless of his preferred genre.

Lusk was the obvious choice to go. Liked Lauren a lot in the beginning but she's worn out her welcome. Didn't like Scotty at all at the start but he's growing on me. Same thing with Haley. James and Haley should be in the finale. James should stick with the rock vibe.

I agree with tinlou45! Lopez' weak vocals and nonsensical lyrics veiled over by background singers and techno beat, absurd wardrobe with fans that rise up out of nowhere to blow her hair while she pouts her lips and squints does not a singer make.
