Are you surprised that Paul was eliminated before Stefano?

I guess you could describe a guy who sings like Andy Devine and dances like a Southpark stick man "unique".

Bravo. Idiot.

The only reason he was in this long was, much like with Sanjaya, that votefortheworst.com stuffed the virtual ballots....and perhaps because the judges blew smoke up everyone's rears week after week. Mr bleached teeth seemed nice enough but who cares about that when it's one of his many strange quirks? He sounded like Rod Stewart after a night of over singing and a all night bender on scotch & smoking. It would be hard to sit through him as any solo act or lead. Dylan has a crappy voice too but at least he was a dynamite song writer/composer...at one time. Paul had no range at all and was the stand out voice that ruined any of their attempts at doing harmonious multi singer pieces. He couldn't even excel in his own genre (his Bob Seger piece sucked like most of his performances that were not a retread of Maggie May). It's not that he was not trying - he just doesn't have an instrument with more than one string. The praise of the judges for being unique was absurd as most of the sugary praise they lavish on these kids even when they're not doing well. I think Paul got pulled by producers given the backlash from Pia's dismissal and the voting being stuffed to keep the worst in.

And while I like Durbin when are the judges going to call out him for that hokey arch the back and sideways to the camera fllation of the microphone while screaming? Ok we get it - metal(yea!!)....but every single rock song ending? It was cliché after the first couple of times not just NOW the 20th time. He's a fun kid to watch and is really into his genre but even a signature effect can be overused.....not that the advise these kids are getting is useful or that they'll listen (though Lusk was saved by his taking song choice advise...unfortunately).

He also made “Idol” history as the first person to cite Jack Black as a musical role model. When Abrams asked guest lecturer Rob Reiner whether the movie legend thought he could be a great singer and actor like Black is, Reiner noted drily that Black would be thrilled to be complimented for his singing voice. That’s putting it mildly.

    Whoa, whoa, whoa....

FYI... Jack Black DOES have a great singing voice....
His band Tenacious D is awesome, and his vocals are strong, with great control.

If you haven't WATCHED the show, then maybe you can't SAY how the judges are. And by the way, Jennifer Lopez is NEITHER. Her comments have been more specific and helpful than just about ANY OTHER previous judge, INCLUDING Simon Cowell, who mostly got his jollies by beating the contestants up without giving them anything constructive.

The judge's situation right now is that the remaining contestants are generally giving such good performances that the only thing they can be critical about are their song choices - and nearly all the contestants are getting THAT right too.....

To "Silverbutterfly"...why are you even in here giving your "stupid" opinion when you have'nt even watched this year? I happen to think that having Jennifer & Steven as judges this year is the best thing thats happened to "Idol"! Jennifer has been the best judge they have ever had and they need to keep her, Steven has been awesome but I wish he would bring back more of his an'tics or repartee to the show which added so much fun to watching. I think the big guys probally had something to do with that but they are really hurting theirselves for doing this...LET HIM BE HIS SELF! He's great! And now...comes "Randy", please..he does not need the money and personally, I can't stand much more of his "YO'S" and "YOUR IN IT TO WIN IT'S"...PLEASE! It is way pass his time...move on!!! So there"Siverbutterfish" swim on down the idiots way!!!

You have to wonder about the Pia debacle when a supposedly professional msnbc.com journalist is so off base about Paul.  He's been mediocre for weeks in terms of vocal abilities. So maybe the bizarre Pia decision was not just about teenage girls. Unless Craig Berman is a pseudonym?

I thought Paul should go sooner. His voice was unique but not that good to me. I think Stefano has an excellent voice. He is more of a contender than Paul was to me. Now that he is gone whoever leaves next and next and next will be a tragedy because they are all that good. Maybe someone will sign Paul. Although he wasn't my favorite I do wish him the best.

IMO Paul wasn't AI material....he wasn't going to win and he knew it....I think he wanted to leave early so he could get back to his band. He made a name for himself and this should propel him to some notoriety. Paul is an "indie" artist and is not looking for a major label sign.

What is there to be surprised about?! Granted, he's got the best smile and I dig on his stage performance, but there is only one Rod Stewart! He's still alive, so Paul will have to wait. I know, my bad! I will miss seeing him on stage, but to choose between him or Stefano?...hands down, Stefano. He sang as awesome last night as he did when he sang Bruno Mars "Just The Way You Are". When I hear that song being played on the radio, I truly expect to hear Stefano's voice. It was that GOOD! The judges had it right when they praised his singing of "End of the Road". Awesome! Anyone notice how Steven Tyler is definitely calmed down compared to when he first came on the show? Too bad his flavor was tampered by the network. He's so funny when let loose!

By "best smile" you mean that he has teeth bleached so white-white that they glow in the dark (heck, astronauts in the space station report that they can see his teeth from up there.)

I actually had to look away from my TV screen when he grinned so my retinas didn't get burned......

Paul's a much better live performer than a recording artist - and Idol is all about recording artists. (Hint: it exists to crank out money making CD's for the producers/investors.)

@ Mary Bender-3324245 I'm not an "older viewer" per say, i'm 24 years old and LOVED Paul! yes, he was not mainstream and yes he did botch some of his songs, but i feel sometimes he tried to adapt to the audience and thats why some of his performances were not the best. I absolutely LOVE his unique voice and if we can have the other singers on that remind us of other artists, as Paul does resemble Stweart, then why is everyone harping on Paul? YOu dont get a voice like his very often! Take for example artists I love such as Ray Lamontange and David Gray, who all have that raspy but soothing voce such as Rod Stewart! I will miss Paul and his sweet smile and talent but I knew he wasn't going to win anyway. I'm praying he will at least get a record deal like many other AI performers that didnt win. I will surely buy his album and attend any concert he has to show, I think it would certainly be more entertaining and fun than Stefanos or Jacobs, which remind me of sitting in church! zzzzzz... :)

Get the 10 year olds off the American Idol speed dial. They have the most talented crew this season and we're going to be left with two teeny-boppers in the finale.

The kids in the crowd went nuts over Rhianna who can't sing her way out of a paper bag.

The same crowd that is voting this year also voted for Chris Allen over Adam Lambert.

Just remember Chris Daughtry and Adam Lambert, and we'll see whose names we'll find on the charts this time next year.

I agree with you that we need to get the 10 year olds off the AI speed dial! After Pia was voted off, I've lost interest in the show because it seems so obviously stacked in favor of the young cute guys vs. anyone else with real talent.

Even though Stefano is talented, he should have been gone awhile back, but those kiddos keep voting for him because he's cute!

This year does have the most talented bunch I think I've seen, but Stefano doesn't have the whole performer package yet.

He's SURE has a made a lot of progress on it, though. He blew the SOCKS off the Boyz to Men song! I don't think he could have DONE it any better. I'd choose to listen to his CD in a flash over anything by Jacob. Who wants to hear "Mantasia" do runs and trills and run up and down a dorky song like "You'll Never Walk Alone" just to prove he can oversing a song? He looks like he's in PAIN when he sings....

I'd MUCH prefer to listen to a really good singer who closes his eyes than a really BAD singer who stares like a deer caught in the headlights. Besides, when you're listening to a CD, who CARES if the singers eyes are open, or closed? Every heard Stevie Wonder sing? How about Ray Charles??

Rod Stewart is an original....and had better pipes at Pauls age...and into his 40's. Why would the do we need a limited immitator to entertain us?

I found Paul's limited voice to be nails on chalkboard unique....then again I'm not as tone deaf as a surprising number of people are. His Maggie May (which he & show milked) was good but then that's too narrow a niche (and hardly qualifies him as being an original - unless having an always limited voice counts. He got a lot out of AI in exposure and perhaps more than his vocal talent deserved (sorry Pia, votefortheworst.com was championing Paul this season as their joke).

I never liked Paul from the beginning. His voice is different, but it was way too quiet to me. Nothing dynamic, nothing to get excited about. I didn't think about his having a career or anything like that. While winning AI may give someone a boost, it doesn't help everyone. Look back at previous seasons to winners who have essentially gone no where. If Paul had progressed and somehow made it to the end, he would have been one of those AI winners going absolutely no where.

Scotty and Paul are a producers favourite anyday cos they are so going to blow, watching Paul in concert will be like having hot chocolate in a very cold winter (very soothing and fierce)

The songs that he and his band have written are AWESOME and his voice sounds amazing when he sings his original music. AI just wasn't the platform for him - but hopefully he made some good connections so he and his band can go even further. Good luck, Paul! You won't need it, though. This is not the last of you.

We'll all be surprise if Steffano ends up in the final 3. Anything can happen. Tell that to the teeny boppers to stop the speedy dial and next week Steffano will sing the swan song.
