I had to shut the show off. In the first 13 minutes, all I heard was screeching at the highest decibal (sp). Honestly, can't James Durbin sing without all that noise? Same with Jacob. Is it me or does Haley R. remind you of a pole dancer?
Yes, she does... a pole dancer who can sing like nobody's business whose g-string I would stuff with tens and twenties! Extremely talented and SEXY little minx.
How can Thia still be going and Stefono and Casey be in the bottom two? Must be the "pity" vote from a bunch of preteen girls. Casey likely appeals to a crowd in their 20s and 30s, rather than the Hannah Montana set.
Thia got the teenage boys voting with their private parts. As for me, Casey's line was always busy, so I think something screwy was going on.
First off, Adam Lambert could learn many things from James Durbin. That kid is awsome, disability or not. He doesn't scream, he sings. To say Jacob should have gone reflects ignorance. That guy could sing the phone book, just like Pia. Casey didn't have his best preformance last night and he knew it. He is great but he hasn't been true to himself lately. I don't know how anyone could slam Thia who doesn't need a bucket with a lid, because she can certainly carry a tune. Stefano is brilliant but he needs to make better song choices. The trouble this year is that all 11 are extremely talented and deserve something above the tour. My top 5 are Pia, Lauren, Jacob, James and Scotty if not Stefano but they are all good in their own right. If Haley would get some consistency, she could be the dark horse. I don't have strong feelings or negative feelings for Paul or Naima and I wish them the best, but I can't see either of them as an American Idol. I wish all of them a chance at a music career and a chance at a good, productive life. They have survived this far. They all deserve something lucrative.
Agreed.. top 5 Pia, Lauren, James, Jacob and Scotty.. in that order, and probably leave in that order.
I was not surprised by Casey's fall... unlike all the fans that come out AFTER the fact, he doesn't have a fan base to make it to the top 5. I was a fan the 1st couple of weeks and he lost me... all he does is grunt and growl his lyrics like he's stuck in a hole and can't get out. It's getting old super-fast. He's going to be toast within 3 weeks.
I'd agree with your picks, except for Scotty. The dude knows no other way to sing other than "George Strait"-ish! I mean, I would not be at all surprised if they have heavy metal night and he tries to turn "Welcome to the Jungle" into a s-l-o-w country ballad!! Geez....and America will vote him through anyway!!
Nah, I'd swap Scotty with Casey or possibly Naima for fifth place.
I totally agree that Pia or Lauren is going to win this thing. My vote goes to Pia. She's got the whole package...voice, stage presence and sex appeal out the "ying-yang"!! As long as she stays consistent, and doesn't try to sing verses in another language (damn, I'm glad K-Rod got the boot last week), she'll be right there in the finals.
Naima could be a world music artist much like Angelique Kidjo and Mariza! She's refreshing and honest in her performances, and truly grateful and humble. I especially like when she sings the blues/jazz numbers rather than pop songs. Oh, and Raegge! Casey is also awesome as is Pia and James! I think there is a resurging interest in classic blues/jazz and to see what talents like these can do to bring a classic sound forward into the 21st Century with freshness! Abrams is a musical genius but I think he needs to show everyone that he can do better than anyone else, PERFORM!!!Bring the instruments to the stage with you and flaunt your talent, man! You blow everyone out of the water when you showcase the whole package!
I think too many of Abrams fans weren't voting simply because they thought he was surely safe on account of his consistency and strong fan base. Just goes to show though that we fans need to make the call and not assume others are doing it for us. Watch from now on and I'll bet his numbers will triple and quadruple! This was a major upset to all the viewers, the judges, even the other singers looked alarmed and expected Abrams to be safe!
My only concern now is that Abrams might play it safe from now on with his song choices since the save is used up.
American The Stupid. This is what you get when you leave it up to "The People." Whatever.... Casey has his future cut out, regardless of what happens on this show, because he actually has TALENT... something that is in otherwise quite short supply on that stage.
America usually gets the right person into the finals, then they drop the ball by voting the "wrong" person as the season winner. It's happened the last two seasons!
Last season, Crystal Bowersox was the class of the field, easily out-performing everyone else every single week....then it comes down to her and some dude (see, he was sooo boring and forgettable, I can't even remember his name), and America gets it wrong.
Season 8....same thing happens. Adam Lambert easily sang rings around the competition, and it came down to him and....who was it again?? I'm not sure, but you see who America voted for, right....yeah, Mr. Vanilla guy.
I'm more convinced than ever that America just wants more of the "same ol', same ol'" when it comes to the winner of AI. I guess that's why I have such a low opinion of today's pop music. In a word, it "sucks"!
t was a waste. Casey will just be voted out next week, along with somebody else (probably Thia)
Thia should have left this week, with the save not being used.
I agree that Thia's time is up. She is a good singer, but needs some time to mature. I think she's a little lost when it comes to song choices.
Should've been Haley... she's still the weakest link, and Naima is the second weakest link.
I agree with other early editorials that the vote was contrived. My instant reaction was that it was staged, and then, with the quick decision to include 11 on the tour, I was certain. No decision costing that much money was made almost instantaneously by a TV show host and whatever number cruncher might be available backstage.
I too thought it was contrived, due to Casey's health. I thought they were going to let him go because the stress on his body on tour will be tremendous. So I thought they were going to give him the easy way out. However, push come to shove, I would rather have seen Casey go than Stefano.
It was not a quick decision to include 11 on tour. If you would of listened (readresp) Ryan said that it was decided at the beginning of the season just in case that this very senerio happen. 11 people left, the judges use there save so still 11 people left so they all go on tour. Nothing was staged, you people all have to try to make some big thing out of this. The people voted and what happen is they assumed that he would be safe so they did not vote. It happens every year. You just need to remember that no one is ever safe you have to vote for your favorite.
11 was determined this week... who sends 11 contestants on tour??? You send 10 or 12 (an even number, not 11) They decided on 11 Thursday Morning when they realized Casey was being cut and couldn't cut one from the tour next week and leave one, so they made it 11.. an odd number because of Casey. If Haley got the boot we wouldn't even be talking about 11 or 10.
Of course, Ryan knows the results - he foreshadowed it by stating at the beginning that there was a shocker coming. He has done that many times before.
From the judges reaction, I think they were genuinely surprised. However, I believe they discuss in advance with the producers which contestants they might save, if necessary, and the powers that be plan in advance how to handle it if the bottom person will be saved. Doesn't that all make sense?
And, for the record, I think they absolutely made the right decision - Casey is a fabulous talent!
Maybe it's just me, but when it comes to Naima, I just don't get it. She cannot sing very well and seems to be awkward on stage. Attitude and ethnic pride are not everything. She needs to go.
what the heck is paul still doing on idol? that guy is lousy and awkward every time he's on stage. his movement is like elaine on Seinfield.
further, i can't imagine what niche or fan base he would have at all that would be calling and voting for him.
it's puzzling why he hasn't even been in the bottom 3.
It's puzzling to you because you are not a tweener brace-face girl. That is a demographic which votes nonstop for two hours, and rarely based upon the best talent up there.
The Seinfeld ref is spot-on, though! Notice, however, that when they put a guitar in his hands, all that extra energy goes into his singing and playing, instead of moving around the stage like a spaz. The guitar prevents him from using a handheld mic, so he's forced to stay put, resulting in a better performance, IMO.
Paul is the current poster child on Vote for the Worst (votefortheworst.com). This website supported Taylor Hicks from beginning to end, voting to keep the worst competitor in the running. If people don't start voting for the singers who actually deserve to be there, Paul could actually end up winning this thing.
This is directly from the VFTW website:
Casey Abrams had the lowest votes of the season, and we were really happy about that! Why? Well we do love him and he's one of the 4 Horsemen of the Idolpocalypse. But, this means the judges wasted their one and only judges's save so now they can't use it later on. Awesome! So we get to keep growling Casey AND there's no more judges' save. Also, all 11 of the contestants are going on tour. Spectacular week. Let's just hope Paul can survive a double elimination next week. Great work, everyone. Let's get Paul to that winner's circle.
David, I laughed so hard when you made the comparison between Elaine on Seinfeld and Paul (for their "dancing") - you are exactly right! I knew I had seen his act before somewhere. Thank you for reminding me.
voters had been extremely blind when they put Casey at the bottom. I must say I was surprised when Stefano was not kicked off. It's so annoying to see him sing with his eyes closed and even if he opened them, it's seems like he had a hard time doing so. Well, I wish the best for the top 11.
Yeah, nobody who closed their eyes, or turned their backs to the crowd ever amounted to anything in the music biz. Can you hear me, Mr. Morrison?
Yes, the judges, Ryan, and the number crunchers are all aware of Plan B, "just in case we have 11", of that there is no doubt. We're in season 10, and this has happened before. The look on J-Lo's face was enough to know that she was ticked off about how America voted. But as for Abrams' reaction - pure visceral reaction - Hard to fake that, and I doubt he's as good an actor as he is a singer. And for the record, I agree he is a good singer, when he sings, but he does not screech or scream. America stopped voting for him, they assumed he was safe - they do it every season - with the front runner. Daughtry and others experienced the same thing.
I am now 100% convinced that Fox is tampering with the vote results. Just look at the poll on this very site. The first two voted off also had the lowest percentage scores in the popularity poll. The next three lowest are Stefano, Naima, and Thia. Casey is not even in the bottom FIVE, let alone the least popular. Notice how Stefano and Thia all made the bottom three, as fits the poll results. The pattern holds still... except for Naima.
Fox has been pushing Naima from the get-go, playing up the 'toilet cleaner' angle sob story to rake in sympathy ratings. It was very suspicious when she was chosen as a wild card over Kendra, who was unfairly robbed of a berth she actually EARNED over Naima, whose wild card performance was nervous and off-key. Last night, they slotted Casey to go first, and Naima second to last. This ALWAYS results in a lower than expected result for an audience favorite who goes first. Every producer knows that the last ones heard are the most remembered, which is why headliners always close any show. It's the beginners and novices who should open a show.
FoxNews blatantly fabricates stories and twists the facts on a regular basis, and that's NEWS which is expected to be factual. If they so easily ignore truth and integrity, what makes anyone think that the entertainment division of Fox is even going to make an attempt at being honest?!
Seacrest announced that "it was decided beforehand that [these] 11 contestants would be going on tour, regardless of which two get voted off next week." How could they decide that beforehand unless they knew the judges would use the save on Casey? It would not even need to come into question. We assume both Ryan and producers knew the results of the vote. Okay, fine. But if the judges did not know the result -- and they all were acting convincingly shocked -- then they could just as easily have let Casey finish singing for his life and decide it was too early to use the save, and hold it in reserve for perhaps James or Pia or Jacob.
Ryan did not say "it's just been decided that all 11 will tour." He said it had been decided already. This show is rigged, and the judges knew about it, and earned their checks tonight with flying colors. The only ones in the dark were the contestants and the rest of us chumps.
No, his exact words were "it was pre-determined" that in an event like this where the #11 contestant was saved (implying any year on Idol), then all 11 would participate. Makes sense since how would you determine of the two eliminated next week, which one goes and which one doesn't. This has likely been a policy of Idol for several years
I agree with everyone who thinks that when "America votes", they'll usually get it wrong. America's 12 and 13-year old twit daughters, mindless airheads all, shouldn't be allowed to have an opinion, let alone express one in a venue that affects real people and their future.
Oh, and to Scott up above, our conspiracy theorist from Seattle ... whenever the judges use their save, two people are voted off the following week. In this case, next week's results would have resulted in a final 9, not 10. They had decided in advance that if -- big if -- the judges used their save in this particular week, then -- and only then -- eleven singers would go on the tour. Duh!
Paul McDonald sounds like a cartoonish Donald Duck when he sings. How long can that go? I do like Casey, Jacob and Hailey! Thats my top 3 followed by the Country & Western young man.
Anyone else kinda ticked that Naima was added as a wildcard? Maybe it's my TV speakers, but she's the definition of the word "pitchy." She usually makes the most mistakes on her notes, and the only thing that saved her this week is that she decided to keep her mouth shut and dance for half the song.
On another note, it's obvious that America doesn't listen to Motown anymore, to not notice Thia's flubbed performance (she even admitted it afterwards). Safe???? Hmmm.
I think you're kinda ticked that Naima is a beautiful and assertive black woman who's proud and celebrates her African heritage.
No Smoky,
I think you're supporting her because you think she "is a beautiful and assertive black woman who's proud and celebrates her African heritage."
Regardless of her beauty, race, and heritage, it's a singing competition. Since she can't sing, maybe she should audition for So You Thing You Can Dance.
Why do you have to pull the race card. She is talented, but she certainly isn't in the top five vocally. She could have an awesome career on broadway.
The person who should have gone in the first week is Thia. She is being saved by votes like Sanjaya. The next one to go is Naima. In my opinionthe person who will be the American idol is PIA. Good luck Zubie
You think Pia should win? Wow... I guess that explains why the runner ups always have better careers than the winners. Taylor Hicks sings a cameo on the Greese tour and is pathetic. Jennifer Hudson is #7 runner up and wins academy awards.
Jennifer Hudson got academy award in a movie , not for singing. last nights performance from her was terrible. have never purchased any of her singles or albums. won't ever.
Excuse me? "Dreamgirls" was a long-running Broadway MUSICAL before it was a movie. Jennifer most certainly did win her Academy Award for singing her heart out in the film. I don't really like her new song either but that takes nothing away from her performance as a SINGER in the movie.
When Casey was revealed to be in the bottom 3, I initially thought that it was his and Fox's way of taking him off the show for medical reasons versus just having to drop out. After the save I was sure he was going to need medical attention right away. I thought he was going to vomit, spit up blood or pass out !! Now that I know it wasn't rigged because he was saved I hope he gets back on his game. His last few performances have been bizaar and disturbing, I still cant get past his rendition of "I've got a spell on you" which was flat scary IMO (where was Bette Midler to smack him in the back of the head and tell him to straighten up !!) I just don't feel like he was trying very hard because his popularity excuses him to a degree. WRONG. He needs to get back to the styling that we saw last night in the half verse of his save song !! This has been the best season in years and this has been the best week of Idol ever. Cant wait for Weds/Thurs anymore.
I am must surprised that Naima is still on. the judges have constantly told her she that she is singing off key. She is still off key. will not go anywhere after tour.
Jacob is another Rubin Stuber and Fantasia, sings great, but will not go anywhere in the industry.
Paul will die out very shortly. it takes more than white teeth to make the big money.
Casey will not win,but will make very good money in the music bizz.
Pia will go on stage only as a ballot singer and do well.
James only hope he makes it to Adam Lamberts level, but will likely win.
Scotty will make big money in the country music industry. over all, her has the most talent for what he does. He doesn't change his direction he wants to go. I am betting he already has a contract waiting for her in country music.
the rest will be here and gone in two years tops.
Ruben Stuber?
ballot singer?
her has the most talent?
he already has a contract waiting for her?
And why do I think you wouldn't have a clue if someone was singing off-key unless someone told you??
smoking dik,
I thing you got the meaning of what I was indicating.
I am must surprised that Naima is still on
I'm not. There are others that need to go before her. I think her main problem is she tries to do do too much (dancing and singing) and can't control her breathing, which directly affects hers singing.
I think Naima needs to make a decision, either dance or sing.
+1 Songbird.
She wouldn't the first contestant to go off to Broadway. Yet, I can't help but think what she would actually sound like if she just sang.

He was good the first time he sang and the rest of the time he has been awful.
