Definitely Apollo 13. When it was in the theaters, the sound was so good the seats would vibrate when the rocket launched. Such a well done movie, it should have won the Oscar that year.
I forgot about gung ho. Many business schools actually study that film as part of their coursework! Funny how much of real life is perfectly transportable to comedy!
I'm 60 and Willow is one of my all-time favorites. I'm grateful to have great grandchildren who like to spend overnights with me and it's a favorite of theirs as well, so hamburgers and popcorn and Willow.....good versus evil and though good always suffers casualties, it wins in the end.
Only one I disagree with is Night Shift. Didn't do anything for me. Both Cocoon and Backdraft were better films. I feel like I've grown up with Ron. He's less than 8 months older than me.
Ditto, but I also like watching Splash when I am in 80s nostalgia mode, as it was cute. My sister's elementary school friend, Shayla MacKarvich, plays the role of the young Madison in the movie.
It really is hard to pick a "Top" list for anything to do with Ron Howard. As someone who grew up in the 70's, Ron Howard has been a big part of my life relating to the entertainment world and my enjoyment of it.
I have heard many complain that Ron Howard's biopic pics stray too far from the truth. However, I think that they are missing the point. Howard loves to entertain and he does that extremely well. My husband and I list Cinderella Man as one of our favorites movies ever (while fully knowing that we are probably alone on that one!)
Apollo 13 is one of my all-time favorite movies. Everyone connected with this film did such a great job, and the subject matter was great to begin with. Ed Harris' performance was riveting.
This list may be good, but Parenthood is at the top of the list. Sappy yes, but sometimes that works. Anyone with a large family can relate to the characters and anyone with a more than one kid and a fulltime job can relate to the line "My whole life is 'Have-to.'"
Steve Martin has made way too many dogs over the years, but his depth and range in Parenthood make up for it. Turns out that, given good direction and a solid script, he really can act! My #1 Steve Martin film and my #2 Ron Howard film (nothing unseats Apollo 13, which I agree with Jemma77 should have beaten Braveheart for Best Picture).
"A Beautiful Mind" is one of my favorite films...it's the best example of the one you want to see when you walk into a theatre, hoping the movie will be good. Russell Crowe should have won the Oscar for Best Actor that year.
I love The Missing with Tommy Lee Jones and Cate Blanchette, I have watched it many times and it never gets old to me. That is my favorite Ron Howard film.
Clint Howard does a great job in Apollo 13. He may not be a great actor, but he certainly does nothing to detract from one of the most brilliant space films ever made.
Being the same age as Ron Howard and growing up with him my entire life I have always followed his career. When I was 21 and getting married, he was on Happy Days still learning his craft and perfecting his delivery. He could have raised allot of hell when the producer's saw that Henry Winkler's part took off, but he is a class act. I have always respected him for that. As far as his films, I never miss any of them. I would have to say that he never seems to miss the boat when it comes to "touching" me. Either I'm laughing until I'm crying or crying until I'm smiling. He does it every time. I remember him in Music Man and Courtship of Eddie's Father's when he was young and even then he had "it". Glad to see as a grown man his "it" factor has never been lost. Keep it up Ron, you are the best!!
Apollo 13 is just sheer genius, from start to finish. While I thought Mr. Howard's (?) decision not to use any archival footage, but rather to recreate everything from scratch, was perhaps unnecessary, the film as a whole (including the CG shots created for it) is just breathtaking. I watched the film, bought the film, watched it again, bought the (excellent) book ("Lost Moon," sort of by Jim Lovell), then watched the movie a bunch more times. I can recite long stretches from memory, and parts like the launch, and Lovell's wife and son waiting for him to return from orbit (and the scene where his wife has to explain to his youngest son that "something broke on your daddy's spaceship") choke me up every time. Can't think of a better film at wedding science, history and layers upon layers of human emotion. Thank you, Mr. Howard. You gave this film buff a lifelong passion for space exploration.
Id have to say my favorite Howard films are Splash, Cocoon and Gung Ho.
Definitely Apollo 13. When it was in the theaters, the sound was so good the seats would vibrate when the rocket launched. Such a well done movie, it should have won the Oscar that year.

I dont think he's the greatest film maker, but he is really good at getting great performances from his actors.
It's hard to pick just one. I'd have to say Apollo 13 with Backdraft a close second.
Gotta say..........Opie's done good.
Backdraft was good. I also hold a childhood fondness for Willow
Willow still one of my all-time favorite movies and I'm in my 50's!

A Beautiful Mind was awesome - I own it and watch it every year or two. One of my all time faves! Night Shift was very entertaining!
Ditto, but I also like watching Splash when I am in 80s nostalgia mode, as it was cute. My sister's elementary school friend, Shayla MacKarvich, plays the role of the young Madison in the movie.
Loved Nightshift. Michael Keaton was famous overnight from that movie but there were some other great lines too - "Barney Rubble, what an actor!"
Night Shift... funny stuff.
"So I threw my complimentary watered down drink in his fat face... so they barred me... for being too good of a player."
Parenthood!
Apollo 13 would probably be my favorite--but I'm sorry, I love "Cocoon"!
Any Ron Howard film is worth watching. He has worked with some of the greatest actors of our time and some who are not but his films always entertain.
It really is hard to pick a "Top" list for anything to do with Ron Howard. As someone who grew up in the 70's, Ron Howard has been a big part of my life relating to the entertainment world and my enjoyment of it.
Keep of the good work, "Richie"!!!

I'm with you on that one.
I'm with you on that one, too! A highly underrated movie.
Loved Cocoon & Backdraft, too. He's a really good Director. Continued success Ron.........
Apollo 13 is one of my all-time favorite movies. Everyone connected with this film did such a great job, and the subject matter was great to begin with. Ed Harris' performance was riveting.
Cotton Candy!

I LOVED Steve Martin In "Parenthood".
The scene where they get in the accident in the van when they try, 'eh-hem' well, you know. Hilarious!!!
Agreed - "Parenthood."
My favorite scene, which still makes me laugh out loud after all these years, is the one where Steve Martin finds the 'ear cleaner.'
I agree. Apollo 13 rocks.
Ron Howard rarely misses. He's a national treasure.
PARENTHOOD is one of the many reasons my daughter exists today.
My husband is going to have "My whole life was have-to" engraved on his headstone - it's his favorite line!!
I have quoted this movie too many times. My standout character is the old grandma and her roller coaster analogy of life. PERFECT.
Love Ron Howard, but I do wish that he'd quit casting his no-talent brother in every one of his films. The guy is just creepy!
Clint Howard does a great job in Apollo 13. He may not be a great actor, but he certainly does nothing to detract from one of the most brilliant space films ever made.
Cocoon beats both of the last two on the list.

I don't think it was Ron Howard that was in the "Courtship of Eddie's Father," it was Brandon Cruz. But I agree with your comments about Mr. Howard.
Revised: Ah, I was thinking of the television show, not the movie--you are correct.
I loved Night Shift, and find myself remembering many of the lines from that movie even today.

Sorry can't pick a favorite. I have loved all the movied from Ron Howard. I hope he continues to bring great entertainment through the next 50 years!!
