Who cares? That picture isn't risque at all. I remember coming across my parent's albums with a "Blind Faith" album cover of a naked 13 year old girl.

I don't see Hollywood using shock tactics, I see the media trying to make a non-story sound shocking.

Here we are 40 years after the sexual revolution and people are still trying to make a big deal out of the human body. It seems that the only ones who care any more are the prudes who were taught that the body is disgusting, the reporters who have nothing better to report on and those who are trying to impress themselves and friends by claiming to take the high moral ground. They also seem to be the ones who believe that their God created us with clothes on. The fact is that nudity and the human body aren't moral issues, they are the facts of life. Get over it already!

Actually it's not that the human body is disgusting, it's that the naked human body is an erotic trigger, hence the need to wear clothing.

Unlike naked animals who use smell to seek out mates, humans use vision as an erotic stimulant and indicator for sex. In short, naked bodies turn people on...that is why it's deemed inappropriate because you are moving something (for lack of a better word) inside people often against their will.

      [HEY...someone had to say it.]

That is why sex sells. So basically all this "sexy" crap going on in films, TV ads, magazine, music and internet is just watered down prostitution of one form or another.

Kids learn more about sex just by standing next to the magazines in the check-out aisle at a supermarket. Have you read what's on some of these magazine covers or witnessed the kid trying to sound out the word "orgasm" as he/she reads them? COSMOPOLITAN is the biggest perpetrator of this.

So it's not a matter of being a prude but understanding that "Sex" for all its wonders and pleasures has a proper place...and IN YOUR FACE is not it regardless of what your sexual revolution says.

BTW...who is Katy Perry and why should I care?

You clearly have never heard of good naked and bad naked. The naked human body is not innately provocative, it's just that the vast majority of the examples we see of it in the media are meant to be erotic.

BTW...who is Katy Perry and why should I care?

Eh, you don't need to care. But who is she? Have you been living under a rock? I can't go anywhere without hearing her last single.

Hey, one man's fat sow is another man's wet dream so I dont know where you get this good/bad naked jive. It's all subjective.

As for living under a rock...not really, I'm just not tied to the music scene and the places I visit and people I know aren't either.

I don't know who this Perry person is either... and no I don't live under a rock.. but I DO ROCK... I don't hip-hop and I don't do rap.. .maybe this individual falls under one of THOSE categories...

Thus leaving us ADULTS out of the loop... not under a rock.

        Gamma,

It is Pop music not Hip Hop!

        Hal,

You really don't read much do you! Good Naked Bad Naked has nothing to do with looks. It is all about context! As for the use of sexuality to sell crap to teens and preteens, nudity is not really even needed! That being said, if one chooses to be more open minded and raises their children that way, looking at most of this in the context of ART takes away most of the erotic nature you are so worried about. However if we choose to look on all of this in a strictly puritanical way we start equated harmless nonsense with more harmful acts of lewd behavior and exposure. Hence Good Naked, Bad Naked. Or maybe it is better said Harmless naked, Harmful Naked!

I'm aware enough to have heard of Katy Perry, but couldn't have told anyone she was a singer. It appears her music was dismissive and won't be remembered in the near---wait, who were we talking about?

            #3.6 - Thu Aug 26, 2010 1:32 AM EDT

Pop; hip-hop; R&B; Rap... it all sound the same to me... like sh*t...

But then.. thats what MY ears hear... therefore; I don't listen to it. (I practice what I preach)

              #3.7 - Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:39 PM EDT

there is no such thing as good or bad naked, only one's perspective in their relative society. Go ask a bushman if he gets aroused over tits. It is just skin, get over it. Nudity is like profanity, it is a self fulfilling prophecy for indecency. If every one stopped caring it would no longer be a trigger of any kind. So I am taking the first step, I do not care. I do not eat food at the supermarket without paying and I do not rape women at the strip club. Luckily my mind has the power to overcome my mammalian impulses.

I guess if you have no singing talent, you need to catch the public's eye in some other way, in the manner of these album covers. Katy's a pretty girl, don't get me wrong, but her singing's mediocre.

8-16 year old girls are the biggest money wasters in our country aside from our government. They are the ONLY reason that someone like her can even come within a 1000 miles of being a well known name and why this garbage makes it on the radio. The music industry refuses to change their format and they alienate the people that see right through the manufactured garbage they force on us. Then they wonder why their sales are down. Maybe they should give people with talent some radio time.

I can't stand the hypocritical fakery of Katy Perry. She gets on her high horse and acts all offended about Lady Gaga and Madonna using God to shock people (and now I find out she used to be a Christian artist!) yet all her songs are your basic skank pop. WTF? She must have quickly figured out she could make more money being a pop singer and showing your ass everywhere. I have no problem with either...it's just obvious that she's a fake.

                    amen.

and the sad thing is that I used to love and I mean freakin LOVE Katy Perry. but then she she opened her mouth and got into trouble. i mean i think that its safe to say that the only reason why she even has a career now is cuz of her I kissed a girl song. but then she thinks she's so much better then everyone else and nobody can violate the word of God.

sometimes I wonder if this girl ever listens to what comes out of her mouth.

cuz if I was her I think I'd be going out of my mind with having to explain and remember all of these hypocritical remarks.

Back in the seventies there was an episode of "The Bradey Bunch" where Greg Bradey was on the road to being a "Rock Star". The reason the record company wanted him was because the suit fit him, literally. They had a leather suit and it fit him, so because of his size, he could be marketed as a rock singer. They didn't care about his talent, or lack of it because "the suit fit". I believe it is one of the best remembered episodes of the series.

Marvin Gaye (Sexual Healing, among others), Luther Vandross (Busy Body, among others), Lynyrd Skynyrd (All Funked Up, among others).

That is my response to anybody saying that all this generations music is too lurid or has too many drug references.

Ooooh, don't forget Rolling Stones-- the Lady Gaga cover where all she was wearing was BUBBLES! And Scorpions/Lovedrive album! And the Prince/Lovesexy album!

I discovered 'Whipped Cream' in my dad's record collection when I was about 9 years old. Listened to the record because of the cover. Loved it. When I saw the pic of Perry's cover, that was the first thing I thought of.

LOL, sounds like alot of old people complaining about younger people and today's music scene. Feeling like your parents did about you so many years ago? Boy George, Madonna, Kiss, Prince, etc, etc.... And let's not forget the talented groups like Nirvana and so many horrible grunge bands of the talentless 90's and late 80's! At least we're getting away from the 100% hip hop beat that has been driven sown our throats for the past 20= years with the Captains of sampled "non' music at the helm, such as Sean C., Rev. Run, Russell Simmons, JZ and on and on. Ironically, lest we not forget, Susan Boyle recently "outsold" Lady Gaga internationally in cd sales, LOL - and not for sexual content, THANK GOD!

The music folks are doing what they've always done, to find new ways, anyway to keep people making the music business a big money maker. If they would like to pay me millions of dollars to be part naked and sexy, I am available right now - just like the rest of you are!

Who can blame her and the current crop of "music stars"? When you have no talent, when you rely on auto-tune to make you sound just like every other music "artist" out there, you have to do something to get attention.

Today's current music scene is a total disaster. And, until auto-tune is banned (which I never expect it will be - nor do I think it could be) it will not improve. It is more about marketing than music. It is more about shocking lyrics than good lyrics. If your song is about sex and partying, it is a hit. If you dance around half-naked and get your name in the tabloids, you are a star. It sucks.

I'm not sure why this particular album cover has generated so much hubbub. She's not showing off anything more than you might see at any beach or grocery store checkout magazine rack anywhere in the country. Since she does not even pretend to be a "serious" musical artiste, let her promote her own image in her own way. The cover photo is a tad risque, but is hardly unprecedented.

Still, today's pop music is total product. I guess I'm just getting old. Is it too late for Mr. Mister to get back together?

They showed a picture of the botoxed Perry and then a picture of a real singer -- Carrie Underwood. If someone has to go to the extremes of Katy Perry and show nudity to get attention, then it means there's not much talent there. It's mediocre at best. A good artist always sells and they sell out concert stages.

I think it's more the pressure of keeping a record contract. Because let's face it, who wants to be "indie" and push their albums for sales? Every singer wants the umbrella of a record company (and the money contract). So if they don't sell CDs, they don't get the contract.

Besides, do little teenage girls REALLY care if Katy is nude or not? She's definitely not singing songs for the boyz.

I bet that somewhere in anthropological obscurity (like buried in soil or in a cave and not yet found...) there is a sexy advertisement for the first wheel!
