My top two choices would have been Johnny Depp or Jim Carey. Both of them can bring out the dark side and work well with quirky mannerisms. Hopefully down the way, Joker will be revived as he was never killed off.
Jim Carey? Are you kidding? I'd go for Johnny Depp, though-if they really wanted to make another Joker movie. But otherwise i appluad Nolan for not giving up the role that was created with Ledger.
No way... Hamill VOICED him really well in the animated series... but visually, he could not pull off the acting.... it would be campy... maybe in the last incarnations of Batman, when Jim Carey was the riddler, that would have been ok... but these films are darker, and more intense...
There will be no more Joker in THESE string of films... but don't worry, I'm sure they'll reboot the series again in a few years, (don't wanna kill the cash cow)and try out a new Joker eventually... .
Ha... Man, you are old school.... Joker needs to be waaaay crazier than Cesar Romero... Joker is a deranged murdering psychopath.. not a bithday party clown...
I think having Mark take over the role would be inspired. He'd be a fabulous choice and could not only fill Ledger's shoes but also take the role in a new direction. Ledger was fantastic, but he is not the only one capable of the role.
I played the "Batman: Arkham Asylum" game over and over, and even knowing the Joker is Mark Hamill, it still sounds nothing like him. The voice is amazing, especially considering he can't use any physical mannerisms or expressions, just relying on his voice.
Amazing game too, I couldn't stop playing it for several months.
JGL would be awesome for a number of reasons, the highest of which is his acting ability (genius) but a close second is the fact that he actually looks like Heath Ledger. I agree. And I don't think it would be a knock against Heath. JGL is just a decent enough fellow to play it Ledger's way as a tribute. He could still bring some of himself to it without affecting the character too much.
Yeah, Joker is too instrumental to Batman's story to simply let him go away.
Did you not hear that Ledger's role (the joker) would not be reprised?....Ledger played a great joker and I agree with the director as not replacing him and bringing in a new character.
I have to agree completely. Beisdes, give it a decade or two and Batman will be reinvented yet again and we will have a new joker. But for this series, Ledger is it. RIP Heath.
Yeah, Hamill's just a voice. A damn fine voice, but just a voice. And they shouldn't bring the Joker back because they don't need to. Batman has the greatest rogues' gallery in comics; try writing a killer script with someone else. It shouldn't be that hard.
I agree with Chris Nolan and applaud his decision. However, we all know that when they have the NEXT "reboot" of the franchise in about 6-7 years, it'll be "Heath who?" Then, they'll bring back ANOTHER Joker, make them a minority or a woman (nothing wrong with that except it'll be just because they are a minority vs. "colorblind" or "genderblind" casting), and then it'll be more of the same.
Everyone said Jack was the best Joker, until Heath did it. In 7 years, it'll probably be whatever kid is acting next to that Miranda Disney girl or the kid who played Damien in the Omen reboot.
The third Batman movie is going to have the Riddler in it. However, instead of the madcap Jim Carrey type villain, Nolan's Riddler will be more of a Zodiac type killer who is going to keep the same present day reality world that Nolan's be able to keep in tack without going into the realm of the supernatural. Who's going to be the Riddler is anyone's guess as you could range from someone younger like Josephy Gordon-Levitt to a more seasoned actor like Phillip Seymour-Hoffman. I guarantee either way its gonna be a blast.
That thought is right up there with the person who suggested Megan Fox as Raj Al'Ghouls daughter. Fortunately Christopher Nolan believes in casting name actors who can actually act.
I would rather see a Batman Beyond movie with Bale as the old Bruce Wayne and some young stud as the new Batman set in the future. It's a good story and with good special effects could be a great movie.
It will be cool, because they will do it eventually. But I personally would like to see a few more as is. I think its too soon for Batman Beyond in this revival of the Batman series.
The Riddler would be the next villain and Nolan might consider Robin Williams. Nolan worked with Williams in the movie, Insomniac, starring Al Pacino. Williams played a very creepy villain and I think he could pull it off if he can contain his over-the-top shenanigans. Williams is a Batman fan and has expressed great interest in playing the role. I say give him a shot.
I thought the exact same thing, except Williams is a little old for the role. Even some sort of role they could put him in would be better than the absolute crap Robin has been doing. They could make him the Riddlers demented father. Somebody needs to drive these people to become super villians.
Hamill is too old and to ugly to play anyone on screen.. He was never very good looking. Voice is all he is good for, No more Joker I have to agree with Nolan, bring in another villain. No one can do a joker, Heaths performance was excellent (as Jack was in the earlier Batman series). Move on. RIP Heath, you are missed.
Seriously? They made health look like a damn lunatic. With scars and everything you define ugly as. So I'm guessing you want like a handsome guy that looks nothing like a villain, to play a villain...Great thinking.
I honestly don't see why people think she is good looking. She honestly looks like a duck now. Haven't seen Salt, but she looks ugly as hell in the trailer clips.
That would be stupid.Never saw a black riddler in the Batman series.Movies or comics.
Did you ever see a black person AT ALL in them? Aside from Billy Dee Williams playing Lando Calrissian playing Harvey Dent??? Shall we keep Gotham City in the segregated 1950's just for you, or shall we move on and let the best actors get the jobs, regardless of their heritage...? I personally like Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury... no problem.
Having said that..... the only time Eddie Murphy should be allowed anywhere near a Batman movie is in a seat with a bucket of popcorn.
Ya you like Sam Jackson as Fury cause he was a total BA in Pulp Fiction. Also, wasn't Nick Fury changed to a black guy in the comics, so that worked out well. The whole point in making a movie off a comic is to stick to the comic as close as possible. Therefore, since the Riddler was never portrayed as a black man, it wouldn't make sense to have a black man as the Riddler.
I think that the franchise should cross over into another genre and think of something that would certainly raise the awareness level--Batman vs Casper the Friendly Ghost. A badass version of Batman with some real super powers up against Casper, who, as you know, can fly through walls.
wasn't Cher being interviewed for Cat Woman?? I think that would be awesome. A couger millionare woman pushed out her window by her boy toy to be wake up in an animal hospital surrounded by cats. A very 'great expectations' story. Maybe put in a few secondary characters who never had a story fleshed out. Roxy Rocket, Clayface, Killer Croc. Maybe have Louis Lane show up to be a new moral woman in his life.
I don't really pick my actors by their sex appeal. Mainly cause I'm not into chicks. I think putting one of the sirens of 80's film back into a possible sex symbol status would really lend another level of context to the story. If not Cher then maybe Meryl Streep or Deryl Hanna (Like how Demi Moore did). Go the "Sunset Blvd." way. Put that against a sweet young thing that catches bruce's eye. maybe Raj Al'goul's daughter as played by a Meghan fox, but good actor, type and it could really be a story. Catwoman has a relationship with Bruce Wayne at the same time he finds romance with the younger girl. As a result Catwoman goes insane with envy and turns into a villian. Since Selina Kyle really knew what Batman's id was she could find it out and make it the new personal conflict/contact that batman needs to the world.
Halle Berry really killed it for me with Catwoman being played by the tiny black leather wearing typical pretty type anyway. Nolan doesn't do things just for the sex appeal. His Villans so far have been very deep. I think it would be good to have a female villan or even hero who isn't skin tight clad in leather and a perfect wet dream for little boys. Finally someone who you can respect as the villian and not just so, oh dude, she's hot.
The previous Batman series (Burton/Schumacher) went overboard with the secondary characters. The first film was the best, and then they went progressively downhill as more characters were added. By the time they got to Batman & Robin, which had no fewer than 5 heroes/villains, it was just a train wreck. These films work best when they are driven by the conflict between just a couple of characters, rather than Batman/Bruce up against half of the rogues gallery.
You give the "EX" Mr. Ledger far to much credit. He was an average actor at best, but I'm going to assume it was his average acting during the movie, that set him apart from other variations of the role. Perhaps we can find a better actor to play one of the other villains, and make the next Bat movie that much better.
I think they should come up with a new supervillian to mirror todays woes. Maybe we could have "Wallstreet Man", where he artificially superinflates the economy, and then crashes it, all while making huge amounts of money in either direction.
Ah, well, to elaborate for those sensitive sorts ... Bruce Wayne is a major wall street executive. He already did something similar to old what's-his-face in the first movie to get his company back. By all means. Lets have a batman movie made so that we can see Bruce Wayne sit over his keyboard and type sarcastic comments on MSNBC.com news articles in an effort to root out evil blowholes by baiting them into one syllable words.
You did teach me a lesson though. I'll use two words to describe the idea...Really dumb.
Sarcasm begets sarcasm dude. Think on this...poor name for economy means low stock prices and no jobs for Americans. Lets teach em all by making these comments and losing faith in American economics.
Ahhhh, Old Faithful speaks. Oh yes, I am the supervillian, rooting out blowholes to use one syllable words to further their attempt at intelligent conversations. I am going to bring down the economy by making people lose faith in American economics. I wonder how many people lost their jobs because I made a sarcastic comment? I can only hope you were among the millions that I have that power over.
Fortunately, most Americans are smarter than you seem to think. We have already had many of these so called supervillians, the dumbest named Bush. But don't worry, you are closing in on him.
The stock market is nothing more than a scam to suck billions upon billions of dollars so that those that control the market can manipulate it to profit themselves. Wall street cares not for the investors, or the jobs that they destroy, only how much money they can make off of it. Greed and corruption have control over our economy. Big corporations making obsene profits, while descimating the economy.
Hollywoods' attempt to make a hero out of a corporate stock trading bigwig is hillarious. Maybe we should get Bill Gates to play Batman since he has done so much to help our economy. Warren buffet can be the Joker. Bush can be Robin, the gay little bastard child in tights with the brain power of a maggot. Nancy Pelosi can be Batgirl. Dick Cheney would be the Penguin. Obama would play the Riddler. Since we don't want to be seen as not employing the mentally challenged, you too could play some obscure part where you save the day with a one syllable word.
Now there is a movie for ya to rant over. Please fill us with your wisdom.
I'm sorry, what did you say??? I'm bored with you now. I'm just gonna smile and nod because in my experience that's what you do to sanctimonious 'I'm so used by the wealthy' types. By all means, I'll let you're idiotic views on how one or two people killed the economy stand. you're sooooooo smart. You won. there.
Damn nice reply Allison, if it weren't for people like you, I wouldn't feel so smart. I hope that you grace us with your words of wisdom again soon, we will all be waiting with baited breath. You hang in there sunshine, they will find a cure for you some day.
A sarcastic comment again. Floyd, why are you still talking to me. You're so irreverent and dead on with your banter you should be writing for John Stewart.
I agree not to replace Ledger as the joker , but at the same time i disagree , the joker was batman Arch Enemy , the need a joker , With no joker , there can not be a true batman , it would feel right ..... They should really look and see if anyone else can do the joker as good or if not better then Ledger did or at lest give someone else a shot at the role....
LOL...hilarious!!...I would like to see that. and he could shoot money (like Gambit did with cards in Wolverine)..considering the STREET threw away all our wealth anyway...
Good call.
The new movie should be about Harley Quinn... maybe trying to spring the Joker from Arkham or something.
My top two choices would have been Johnny Depp or Jim Carey. Both of them can bring out the dark side and work well with quirky mannerisms. Hopefully down the way, Joker will be revived as he was never killed off.
I agree, you don't have to have the Joker to have Harley, they could have her already insane and trying to kill Batman for the Joker... Mad Love
Jim Carey? Are you kidding? I'd go for Johnny Depp, though-if they really wanted to make another Joker movie. But otherwise i appluad Nolan for not giving up the role that was created with Ledger.
Meh. Mark Hamill has still proven to be the best Joker of all.
No way... Hamill VOICED him really well in the animated series... but visually, he could not pull off the acting.... it would be campy... maybe in the last incarnations of Batman, when Jim Carey was the riddler, that would have been ok... but these films are darker, and more intense...
There will be no more Joker in THESE string of films... but don't worry, I'm sure they'll reboot the series again in a few years, (don't wanna kill the cash cow)and try out a new Joker eventually... .
In animation and in voice. I'd say the best Joker would have to have been Cesar Romero.
Ha... Man, you are old school.... Joker needs to be waaaay crazier than Cesar Romero... Joker is a deranged murdering psychopath.. not a bithday party clown...
I'm amazed at the number of Batman films that have been made. And almost all of them have been at least reasonably successful.
Except for Batman and Robin with Georgie as Batman, it could have been played a lot better. by somone else.
I think having Mark take over the role would be inspired. He'd be a fabulous choice and could not only fill Ledger's shoes but also take the role in a new direction. Ledger was fantastic, but he is not the only one capable of the role.

Amazing game too, I couldn't stop playing it for several months.
Hamill is too old. Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be perfect.
JGL would be awesome for a number of reasons, the highest of which is his acting ability (genius) but a close second is the fact that he actually looks like Heath Ledger. I agree. That sounds pretty cool... are you speculating or did you hear that somewhere?
Rumor already has it that the Anthony Michael Hall character from TDK could be turned into the Riddler.
that's kind of corny....
They will probably cast Justin Beiber as The Riddler and once again, destroy the franchise.

Ya, cuz going from the start of Batman to the end of him is the obvious logical course....-_-(Aimed at Rob Holiday. New to this kind of format)
The Riddler would be the next villain and Nolan might consider Robin Williams. Nolan worked with Williams in the movie, Insomniac, starring Al Pacino. Why is Robin Williams too old for the part? The Riddler isn't a hand-to-hand fighter, age doesn't really matter to the character.
Can Nolan do me a favor and do a reboot of Spawn in all it's grown up glory? BTW: his job with Batman has been amazing.
Ya! I want to see a new Spawn movie.
Its Penguin or Mr. Freeze. The Winter has to come! Yall know anything about BATMAN!
Schwarzenegger really ruined Freeze for me.... I just keep hearing that dumb voice SAYING... "EVERYBODY, CHILL".... ugh.
He wasn't that bad imo.
Too ugly to play a villain? Good god you're an idiot.
Seriously? They made health look like a damn lunatic. With scars and everything you define ugly as. So I'm guessing you want like a handsome guy that looks nothing like a villain, to play a villain...Great thinking.
What about casting Angelina Jolie as Catwoman?
How about Zoe Saldana?
Oh hell no.Not that puffy lipped ska*k.What would be her motive?Smuggling in children from china and africa.
I honestly don't see why people think she is good looking. She honestly looks like a duck now. Haven't seen Salt, but she looks ugly as hell in the trailer clips.
Giovanni Ribissi would be an interesting Joker replacement...
I've heard that Eddie Murphy is in talks to play the Riddler
Good God no..... Shaddap dawnkay!!!
And another movie is ruined...
That would be stupid.Never saw a black riddler in the Batman series.Movies or comics.
Did you ever see a black person AT ALL in them? Aside from Billy Dee Williams playing Lando Calrissian playing Harvey Dent??? Good job Nolan! There can be no other Joker!
I agree. it would be like when bewitched replaced Darren Stevens half way through the series.
WHAT.......THEY DID???????...........;-)
I think that the franchise should cross over into another genre and think of something that would certainly raise the awareness level--Batman vs Casper the Friendly Ghost. A badass version of Batman with some real super powers up against Casper, who, as you know, can fly through walls.
Fly. Through. Walls.
Hear me out on this. Oh, wait. Never mind.
Joker -yes
Definitive? HELL NO!
then again this is old news...everyone and their sister knew he wasn't bringing the clown prince in the 3rd movie...
wasn't Cher being interviewed for Cat Woman?? I think that would be awesome. A couger millionare woman pushed out her window by her boy toy to be wake up in an animal hospital surrounded by cats. A very 'great expectations' story. Maybe put in a few secondary characters who never had a story fleshed out. Roxy Rocket, Clayface, Killer Croc. That milk is a bit passed the expiration date, dont ya think?
I vote for Zoe Saldana...

Well, if we're talking "sirens of the 80s" then it's got to be Betty White.
Cher WAS considered for Catwoman, but in the old series--the one that Burton was overseeing. Michelle Pfieffer landed the role in the end.
Louis Lane? Was there a cross-dressing secret I missed?
You give the "EX" Mr. Ledger far to much credit. He was an average actor at best, but I'm going to assume it was his average acting during the movie, that set him apart from other variations of the role. Perhaps we can find a better actor to play one of the other villains, and make the next Bat movie that much better.
Your opinion is definitely in the minority.... It's is widely agreed that Ledger played THE definitive Joker.
I think they should come up with a new supervillian to mirror todays woes. Maybe we could have "Wallstreet Man", where he artificially superinflates the economy, and then crashes it, all while making huge amounts of money in either direction.
DUMB!
Gee, it was a sarcastic remark, intended to get some blowhole to write their wealth of intelligence in a one syllable word. Thanks for participating.
