Mitchell: Dylan's a 'fake'

Most music fans consider the twosome among the most influential artists of the last 50 years, and place Dylan at the absolute pinnacle of the singer/songwriter pantheon. Mitchell does not hold him in such high regard.

The trouble is that these idiots from the 60's have taken over the federal government. Didn't she suck enough money out of this country? Why does she think that she's any different from the US pothead creeps that she screwed for all of those years? I don't miss those days at all. Growing up then was like hell on earth. Motown was ok.

And you know this because you read this in some bs magazine while sitting in the toilet?...Really odd...I remember when I was growing up and I believed because I wasn't quite mature yet, that everyone from the 50's were taking over the government and screwing everything up...If you can do a better job...run for some office..Can't be any worse than what we have today.........

Not much of a story. This is the singer we all called "Phony Joni" when she was popular.

Other than John Mayer, I think Bob Dylan has the worst voice that ever made the radio.

Wow! Sounds like typical banter from a "silver medalist". I really don't care where Dylan got his lyrics. They were profound and inspired a generation, or two, or three. He was (is) folksy, has a rather crummy singing voice, yet, hit homeruns with his message during a turbulent time in our American history. His inspiration led the Beatles to greatness, and rock-and-roll to what it is today. Also, Dylan's friendship with Woody Guthrie is testament to his American spirit.

Mitchell should relax, clam up, and continue to have a great life in Canada on the U.S. dollars she garnered due to Bob's pioneering efforts.

Dylan never claimed to be much. I remember him writing, back in about 1970, that the "greatest living poet" was Smokey Robinson.

That would be The Strolling Bones.....Not necessarily counted out quite yet...You could only wish to live the lives of excess and fortune these boys saw. Some day quicker than you think you will, if fortunate enough, sit and reflect and wonder just where 40 years went...Then you can flap your mouth.....

Joni you were a never was. You complain about how Americans are destroying the earth, etc.. Yet where did you make your money? Go away and don't come back.

For those of us that grew up in that era, Dylan was a true voice, you were a pain in the ***.

Isn't this cute, one old codger ragging on another old codger. The lyrics are great but the tune leaves me flat. Better call out the national guard before this dispute gets really ugly.

Seriously...she's helping America destroy toe world with her absurd behavoir...Just because you're not famous anymore...and the only person you like is dead. I would be interested to see if Dylan replies nicely. Not that he should have to reply at all...just let it go.

          #8.1 - Fri Apr 23, 2010 5:23 PM EDT

          I wouldn't reply. He's probably thinking: "Poor Joni...presenile dementia."

(Decent and safest thing to do is to let it go.)

Joni Mitchell is correct about the past thirty years of American "culture". Bob Dylan is a fake but he seems like a real fake to me, that is he believes his own bs.

I take no side, but ask: Have you ever done anything for a dollar that you would not have done if the dollar weren't there? If so, then you too are a sell out. Aren't we all, in our own way?

Since she has not been relevant for 40+ years it is no wonder she finds the last 30 years "stupid".  Sounds like bitterness.  The big take away from this article though is I lost all respect for Glenn Frey.  Yikes!  What was he thinking?

Bob was always just a song & dance man-just ask him. He's probably one of the best lyricist this country has produced.

Joni's point about Madonna is correct-We've all become Material Girls/Guys and that's all that matters anymore in the USA. If you can't make a buck off of it why do it??? Sports, Movies, Wall St., Public Service etc etc. I'm not saying that's a bad thing but life is SO much more than money!

When Bob & Joni were singing FOR FREE-they did it because that's who they were. Sure they would like to make a living off of it but at THAT time it wasn't JUST for the money or fame.

Peace, Love & Understanding-something that we don't see much of anymore.

I've always thought that Michell was a mediocre artist at best with an exaggerated sense of self importance. She earned her reputation as a diva back in the 70's and apparently hasn't lost that reputation today as her songs and talent age rather awkwardly. Joni has ceased to be relevant for a long time in the music industry and, like any egomaniac whose time has passed her by, she's expressing her bitterness about people who are currently relevant and have maintained relevance,  by taking verbal shots at them. All I can say to Joni is, start taking your meds again and if Homer Simpson were here he decribe your body of work as, "Boring!"
