Actually Family Guy isn't really that stereotyped besides making satire. And usually I notice that they have pretty good values hidden in: supporting liberalism, and actually supporting tolerance. When Palin was running for office it did not bother her at all to put him in from of the people almost as a prop of a compassion vote. She used everything and everyone in an attempt to gather attention. She used a staged love relationship between her daughter and Levi that we now all know was at best misleading, she used Trig at every opportunity possible for her anti-abortion stance and show her compassion toward all, and even used her husband to be an example of a hard working loyal mate that had the ultimate trust in her decision making process.

Now that the "First Dude" is being outed as the pants of the family and very much involved in her decisions even though he was never elected, Levi is coming out as I'm not sure what, and Bristol is trying to become the spokesperson for abstinence, Trig is her new battleground to get air time.

I do believe it is very low to use people with Developmental Disabilities as a prop but she is going to have to be consistent. You can't use it both ways. Is the Family Guy writer any more of a "heartless jerk" than Limbaugh with his "Retard" rants?

The show portrayed someone with Down's but did not have them as a stumbling, drooling idiot so I don't understand her anger, and if all the character said was "my dad's an accountant and my mother is the former governor of Alaska" I think it's much ado about nothing Sarah.

What I am saying that Trig should never been a factor either way. Downs Syndrome is a disability that is not isolated to Palin. I have a nephew with Downs and he is neither hidden or displayed. To us he is just like everyone else. We don't have to protect society from him, we have to protect him from society. He believes everyone is good and will give you the shirt off his back if you ask for it. My sister is very fortunate that she lives in a neighborhood that welcomes him with open arms. He has a hug and a smile for everyone.

What I am concerned about is people using them either way, as a sympathy card or a fear card. If they are treated the same as others they will adjust like the millions of others with disabilities have. He is not afraid to work like most of the other kids his age.

My nephew is 14 and his major concern right now is NCAA basketball. He can tell you just about every player on the teams he believes will reach the final 4. He helps me pick the brackets and we have won twice.

Sarah went nuts because Rahm Emmanuel called liberals retards in a private meeting. She said he should be fired. Then Rush turns around and not only does the exact same thing but does it repeatedly on air. She just didn't want to commit public suicide by saying anything to him about it. Her career was more important.

Now Family Guy uses satire, real satire - I think they were mocking her more or less and not DS kids from what I could tell -and she is lambasting them. Point blank she cares more about her career than her own kid and kids like him. If she didn't she'd have been all over Limbaugh.

Family Guy mocks everyone. No one is safe from satire on that show. I'm Irish, but that doesn't mean I get offended when they make fun of the Irish (which they do a lot). The episode didn't make fun of people with Down's Syndrome and in fact presented a girl with Down Syndrome being pretty much like everybody else. So they made a reference to Sarah Palin, so what? She's made it a point to let the entire world that she has a kid with Down's, so as cultural references go its sort of a no-brainer. 1. I saw the episode. They didnt say anything bad about having down syndrome. The way ppl are talking Down Syndrome is something to be ashamed of and kept hidden in a dark corner. People with Down Syndrome lead pretty fulfilled lives.

2. In the episode the girl was a bit of a spit fire. Not because she had Down Syndrome but because that's was the character. They didn't make her down trodden or sad.

Now, I watch reruns of NOVA, Nature and Frontline on my computer and if I want information I look for it on the web and get it from more than one source so that I can delineate between fact and opinion. By the way The Ascent of Money on PBS is very interesting.

It seems to me that many posters on here have NEVER watched an episode of Family Guy. Every episode has something in it that pushes the boundary of political correctness - this is partly what makes it so funny. There has never been a single episode of Family Guy that had any "class" so when I see comments by those claiming that this wasn't classy it only shows they've never watched the program. Family Guy is not for everyone, but I find it to be one of the funniest programs on TV.

I have a sister with Downs Syndrome and she loves Family Guy. I spoke with her shortly after the episode and she thought it was very funny. I do have to point out she is higher functioning than Sarah Palin, so i think the satire didn't go over her head. The episode had nothing to do with a baby, it was a teenage girl. The girl in the episode was painted as very popular and demanding, not at all "retarded". I believe Palin does more harm than good treating special needs people like they are so different they cannot be spoken about, all they want is to live normal lives. That includes being included in amusing story lines on a cartoon.

The slam was not directed at individuals with Down's Syndrome. It was a direct SLAM against Sarah Palin!!--nothing more nothing less.

She knows it was directed toward her that is why she is reacting. If it had made fun of those with Downs syndrome it would have drawn mass objections from people. It is okay for Limbaugh to use the word "retard" which is directed at a group of people with disabilities but not okay if it hits her.

Whether or not the cartoon was offensive to some people is irrelevant. Sarah has made it all about Sarah "protecting" her family. This is her typical rabble rouser method--stick her nose out and scream for all the attention she can get, and when she gets it, she claims she just wants her and her family left alone. Really, she has always reminded me of Kim Jong Il, who when nobody gives him enough attention, threatens the world with distruction unless everybody leaves his hermit kingdom alone. Wonder if he was as upset by how they made him look in "Team America"?

The funny thing is there are much more stark examples in previous Family Guy episodes of humour against those with developmental disabilities. The only reason she bows up and tries to play defender of the meek is because this was the first time she was specifically targeted.

If one actually watches the episode and takes in the meaning, the moral of the story is that those with developmental disabilities are people too and just as capable of being either good or evil. Furthermore, the subject character is presented as someone who is capable of being loved, even if it is just by Chris Griffin. This is quite a contrast from professional victims like Jenny McCarthy, who claim that those with Autism "sucks the souls out everyone around them."

The really funny thing is that the woman who did the voiceover for the Downs Syndrome character has Downs herself! Look it up...Andrea Fay Friedman

During Mrs. Palin's speech at the Tea Party convention, she seemed to find joy in the fact that our president's first year hasn't gone very well. If the president's year went bad so has the citizen's. She came across as sarcastic and mean spirited. I was a Republican until she was made John McCain's running mate.
