The best albums of the decade

For an album to make the best of the decade list, it had to be more than just something to appreciate and put on a shelf. It had to be something you couldn't live without.

I cannot believe there was no mention of U2's "All That You Can't Leave Behind" released in 2000. BOO! HISS!

Not a single jazz album worth mentioning? Not a single classical recording?

Only pop/hiphop is listed here, with the exception of Green Day's American Idiot.

Why don't they call this list what it is: The Best Albums of the decade for people who only listen to what they are spoon-fed by Top-Forty radio shows? I'm sure that this list does very well represent this particular genre, and that's fine! (But I do sort of feel sorry for any "musical critic" who limits themselves to this music only.)

I vote for Garbage 2.0 and Radiohead's OK Computer.

OK Computer was released in 1997. A great album though.

So this is the best Rap/R&B albums of the decade right, or doesn't the NAACP allow that?

        Reply#2 - Tue Dec 29, 2009 7:01 AM EST

Hmm, sounds like your sour grapes about black folks dominating this list. Or is it that you don't listen to anything other than Garth Brooks.

So in order to be apart of the best albums of the decade you had to be in the Rap/R&B genre? What about all of the awesome Rock albums of the decade? How about Metallica's "Death Magnetic" or Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons" (You know the album with "Photograph" who doesn't know and appreciate that song). This list is lame.

        Worst. List. Ever.

I have never heard a note of any of the "best of the decade" albums. Guess I need to spend more time in crappy urban clubs?

I totally agree-worst list ever. A few mentioned ARE worthy of making the list or at least an honorable mention. Bruce's 'The Rising' comes to mind as do too many others you failed to even mention. I'm calling for a 'do-over'.

I had hoped that I would never see the day when a list such as this would be comprised of mostly blacks(n******) and the crap that they call music!! How anyone can listen to this crap is unbelievable never mind voting it to be the best that the music world has to offer. It's an insult to those who record music whose lyrics inspire so many people with hope and inspiration. The lyrics of the majority of the albums listed, if you can understand them, inspire no one, with the exception of those white kids who find it necessary to imitate the behavoir of the idiots, blacks mostly, who have been lucky enough, luck not talent, to have been able to record these albums. They're called whiggers I believe, and if not for them these record wouldn't be nearly as popular as they seem to be.

Racist and hateful remarks towards black artist and their music only shows the world why ignorant pigs who have no understanding of how modern music evolved from black artist are so upset. You probably think Elvis created rock n roll too. You big dummy. Get your hood and go back to 1964. Or better yet go to church because you need Jesus. Your kind of hatred has no place in modern society.

It seems as if I'm not alone in my views on who made this list, take a look at all the comments made so far, none seem to be in support of what you obviously call music. Of course I'm not surprised because it doesn't take a whole lot of intelligence to listen to that noise that you support, which sort of reminds you of jungle drums when you get right down to it. Don't despair "Music is my Life", one day you will come to your senses and hopefully realize that that noise isn't music

I think I'll stick to Les Paul. A true artist. True enough that he did not release any albums this decade, but he did die this year and had more talent in just his fingers than all the people on this crummy list.

Can we get this article done over from a perspective from someone other than a black critic? What about other styles of music? The title of the article should have been "The best Hip-Hop albums of the decade"

This shouldn't be a "race" issue...but how can the "best of the decade" be so dominated by music that I would think a MAJORITY of Americans never hear? Like or dislike bands such as Nickleback(I firmly DISLIKE) but at least most of America has heard their garbage and can judge for themselves. To tell me that Kayne West is deserving of this "honor" is a joke! In a decade that offered Norah Jones, U2 and Green Day at a MINIMUM

This list is crap. I don't like any of these "artists". Hell, most of the music I like was made before I was born. Bye Bye, 2009. I won't miss ya.

I know we each have our favorites--I personally nominate AC/DC's Black Ice. Loads of fun--a good, solid rock-n-roll album from start to finish.

Where's Exodus Tempo of the Damned? And they call us narrow minded cause we don't like the same drum machine beat in every song. What a lame list
