You either love or hate 'Idol's' Adam Lambert

One thing on which almost everyone agrees: The dude, as Randy Jackson would say, can sing. But his critics are annoyed by the embellishments, particularly his high-frequency wails.

I'm a professional musician that finds Adams voice one of the best I have ever heard. yes, he can scream with the best of them, but he also has a huge range that is always in pitch, always in rhythm, a very controlled vibrato, and his voice never seems to show signs of being tired. This guy can technically outsing Steve Perry from Journey, who is one of the best vocalists a band has ever produced.

Chris on the other hand is not technically agood singer. He may be appealing. (Bob Dylan was appealing, but could barely carry a tune.) But music is more than just singing talent, so Chris could win, but it wouldn't be becuase of talent.

Yes. Performance is frequently about interpretation, as well as actual talent. But probably the prize goes to the alternative lifestyle guy, rather than the worship leader.

A nice solution in 2 parts for next season would be :

    1) the judges would allow the participants to choose music selections whether self written or not while encouraging as many music idols as possible w/that power to over-ride the decision of the public.

2)move to three judges to easier balance the personalities. A male and female Simon is just too much.

then, the American people can better select whether a music multi-tasker w/ diverse styles like Adam should represent the American way or one who polishes one style. Frankly, I, as a musician am impressed with many who have been voted off as well as these two. The optimum amount of money or popularity achieved after the show will be determined by a true artist ..if allowed to be an artist w/o outside Mommys and Daddys telling the artist how to, what to, lifestyle, etc....................................

I liked all three going into Tuesday. Mainly, I had been rooting for Gokey all season, but I would have been disappointed had Adam Lambert not been in the finals and if he does not win. He did not deserve the bottom three slot two weeks ago. I also did not want to listen to the various forms of the media explaining endlessly why Lambert was an upset loser had he gone out last night. I hope Lambert goes onto major stardom and remains a good guy throughout his career.

VERY IMPORTANT!!! Adam is not going to win unless we can compete in voting for him the way Kris' fans are doing. They are promoting a free software download called Gizmo which allows users to vote an additional 3 hours, even outside of the United States. Go to the website KrisAllenNation to download Gizmo and get more information. They say "46 people voted 81,135 times"! How can we compete with this using telephones for 2 hours? Adam is by far the best singer, but I fear we may have been outsmarted and we will be ding donged if we don't smarten up!

I don't believe that at all. And you can't count out text messaging. Alot of people tend to send text messages because those always get through everytime. It would be nice if Idol would differentiate how many of those 88 million votes were text messages. I bet you there would be more text messages than phone calls. For instance, you could setup all three numbers for a contestant in your phone book and send the text message to all three at the same time, so that gets you 3 votes at a time.

I would not worry about GIZMO. This could also work both ways, now that they have put it out there. Adam's fans could do the same thing. It could backfire on Kris's people.

As for voting additional 3 hours, I think they are referring to Idol adding extra calling time for the finale. It usually has been 4 hours total voting time in the past. Again, I could be wrong but that is what I get from it. If someone knows differently, please correct me.

I think Adam is talented, but have to say that I have grown quite sick of his screeching and feel that if I have to look at the way he sticks his tongue out when he hits that high note one more time, I'm going to puke. My dog runs around in circles when he does that. My vote is for Kris all the way!

I don't care if Adam is straight, bi, gay, or merely merry.  I haven't heard talent like his since Freddy Mercury.  It'll never happen, but if Adam and Allison were in a band...wow.

I'm not the younger generation and I guess that's why it sounds like screeching to me. I really enjoyed the soul of Danny. Chris is cute but I wouldn't recognize his voice if it comes on the radio. For that fact, I don't think I will recognize Adam. Danny, on the other hand has a sound that is unique.

Even tho I'm not sure what age range you refer to as the younger generation (I'm 40ish), but I do agree with you it sounds like screeching to me too. He's fine with the softer ballads, but what he did with Ring of Fire made me want to just vomit. I have to either fast forward it or mute the sound when he gets to screaming and when he's sticking his tongue out I have to close my eyes. Eeeesh. I too liked Danny, I thought he should've won.

Although I'm not sure what "younger" generation you refer to is (I'm 40ish), but I know I do agree that it sounds like screeching to me too. And after what he did with Ring of Fire, I was so suprised he didn't get voted off that week. It was horrible! I had to mute the sound! I usually do anyway. I do think he's ok with the slower ballads like during the Rat Pack week, but the tongue sticking out makes me cringe, I have to close my eyes while the TV is muted.

An American idol is one who can be admired in whole and I have a hard time believing that someone like Adam fits that description.  I see thousands of people a day and none fit that type of "normal".  Bring on some normal logical thinking and vote for Kris!

I love Adam's voice. The moment I heard him sing I thought of Freddie Mercury (QUEEN), Steven Tyler (AEROSMITH), Ian Hunter (MOTT THE HOOPLE) and Robert Plant (LED ZEPPELIN)....all gods in the rock world. Its been a long time since I've heard a new voice sing like that....LOVE IT. Ya know, I'll bet any of them would have been big stars on broadway too if that is where their love for music had led them. I could just see Adam playing the part of Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar or with a band giving one heck of a show during the concert.

And to Linda in Texas....I'm 54 years old and grew up with the bands I listed above. I suspect that he'll sell music across several generations because of the "older" generation that loved groups with singers that "screamed" :)

What I don't get is that everyone calls this kid original, but what is original about him?! This sound is nothing new, in fact it's pretty old school. Steven Tyler, Freddie Mercury, everyone you named...it's been done before. And it's been done better, especially by Bowie...now HE was original.

Lambert doesn't even look original! He sports the same stupid guyliner that Pete Wentz does and by the way, how could the author of this article put Pete Wentz in the same category as Tyler and Bowie...really?!! The bassist of Fallout Boy in the same league as icons like Tyler and Bowie?!

Kris Allen isn't any better, can Idol not come up with a new sound?! Idol is and always will be about carbon copied music that has been done before.

My apologies to those of you following all of Adam's Newsvine threads . . . I posted this on another thread yesterday, but it applies here, as well.

Not knowing Adam personally, I'm just going by what I have been allowed to see by the American Idol producers. A young man who is exceptionally talented, extremely gracious and humble, genuinely affable and outgoing and truly excited to be in the position that American Idol judges (in putting him in the Top 13) and America (by their voting) have put him in.

While I have awaited each and every one of Adam's performances perched on the edge of my seat -- not sure what his approach to each weeks' song would bring -- I have not even noticed Kris until two weeks ago when he did a nice job with a song (don't remember it, but I know I thought he did a nice job).

During the video of the hometown visits, we got to hear a bit of Adam's rendition of our national anthem. What a beautiful, clear voice he has! I guess one of the things I love most about his vocal ability is that it and he are so versatile -- soft and caressing one moment and in the upper rafters the next.

Is Adam over the top? Absolutely! He is outlandish? Mostly. Is he talented? Undeniably!

Adam would stand out in just about any crowd I can think of and that's his appeal. He draws you in and invites you to join his party. I'm sending in my RSVP by way of votes.

He's so far from my world and yet he appeals to me the most. I enjoy him . . . and that's what being a successful entertainer is all about. Enjoying the show . . . the voice, the demeanor, the attitude, the look. In chasing the American Idol crown, Adam is doing what each of us should aspire to do . . . chase our own American dream.

A few thing: Adam does have a big voice, but (much like early Christina Aguilera and more recent Mariah Carey) he uses it for evil! He over-sings practically everything. And I am part of the younger generation, and Adam's screeching drives me nuts! To hear people put him in the same class as Freddy Mercury and Steven Tyler is insane. If you want a comparison, check out Michael Sweet from Stryper (a band that I love, by the way). Adam could step in there right in his shoes now and sing...it's just he's not "American Idol" pop material. Stryper, yes. Musical theater, yes. Rock opera, yes. Radio...hell no. Most overrated, yes!

Lastly, this talk about him being different and relevant a la Pete Wentz and company. Give me a break! Adam couldn't be more different than that crowd despite the guyliner. The harsh truth is that Adam is nothing more than a poser...it just shows how enamoured the judges have been with him that they've convinced themselves that his theatrical costuming is tantamount to the alt-rock scene.

We forget that the music industry is part of the entertainment industry. People may buy tickets to concerts where they’ll hear music they like, but when they talk about the concerts after, they always talk about what entertained them. They rarely just list off a bunch of songs that were sung. Granted… Freddy Mercury was a genius, and his music is amazing, but he also knew how to put on a performance, which is why he could fill stadiums full of people. He could not only sing… he could entertain. He knew how to put on a good show… and he was quite theatrical. People are underestimating the importance of Adam’s theatrics.

I would find Adam extremely entertaining and fun to watch, and he can sing to boot. He’s retro ( so stop blaming young people… those of us that grew up on rock love him too) yet relevant, he is outlandish and different from mainstream (maybe not unique among those that sing his style of music, but certainly not mainstream), and I think people just like that. He’s also quite skilled at changing songs to fit his voice… something everyone else struggled with. He’s extremely talented. I’ve never seen a contestant where I was excited to watch just to see what they were going to do this week until Adam.

I like Kris, and he can sing quite well, and I think he’s proven himself, but I probably wouldn’t bother going to one of his shows. I don’t find him very much fun to watch. Considering the main way to promote an album is by going on tour, filling those seats are kind of important. Simon knows that Kris will fade quickly, but Adam will put butts in the seats for years to come.

I don’t think anybody can measure up to Freddy (I hate hearing people attempt to sing his music), but Adam is one that I think could attempt it and understand what it takes to give due respect to the author and composer.

Adam has been the only unique performer Idol has has in the 8 years its been on. His range is amazing and you expect the unexpected with him. I have not been so excited to see a performer each week like I am with Adam. He has been above and beyond every week while Kris has just shined in a couple songs. The winner is supposed to be the most talented so it should be Adam who wins

I think Adam is a very talented young man, but I think the fervor of his fans borders on obnoxious. I'm sure he will win and he deserves too. I'm still upset about Michael Johns from season 7, not winning. So it is really not always about who is the 'Best, winning'. Regardless, Danny, Kris, Allison and Adam will all walk away winners.

Sorry, but if you 'hate' Adam you don't know him, you are just a close minded judgemental person. This man is the kindest most gentle soul I've ever met.
