Good news is good but lets be frank. The reality is the economy is in the toilet and if we do not hear about it, no one is going to fix it. Brian Williams does a great job reporting the news in the best manner he can. I have unemployed for 3 month. There are little jobs in the finance industry, where my expertise lies and have come to think the employer use the economy as an excuse. The government is pumping money back in to the system but is anyone keeping tabs on the employers getting fat bonuses while throwing out there employees. My employer laid off three people, a whole department, and they have never laid of anyone. And they do not even have money problems. They blamed it on the economy. If you ask me, people are not held accountable to anything these days. Corporate executives steal money but they walk away. If you steal from a bank, don't you go to jail. What's the difference if you steal someones life savings. Maybe I am a realist. Back to the point of the economy. No one wants to take responsibility for anything, because their afraid of hurting someones feelings. Hold people accountable and get rid of the red tape. if people lie, steal, cheat, it is a crime if you ask me.
We need to see and hear good news. With all the things going bad you need that bit of hope. Sometimes I don't even want to watch the evening news because it seems all we hear is bad. From the economy, jobs, and killing sprees. Were burned out and need to see what good people have to offer. I'm tired of that octoplet mom, Republicans whing, greedy CEO's and gloom of the stock market. I know there is good news out there. We just need to hear.
Unbeleivable that the networks want good news now that Obama is in office! Where were these feelings when Bush was in charge? Oh, that wouldn't fit their agenda. These guys are a joke.
Wait a second! Are we all asking the media to just make us feel good? Aren't they suppose to be reporting the truth. And the truth is we are is a very bad way, and unless we hear what is really happening, we are falling right in to the hands of the people who want us to dump up so that they can control what is done by our government. No thank you! I want to hear real news. Then, I'll write to my rep in congress and suggest what I need in my community. Don't entertain me, inform me. Tell me more about the world situation. Remember, no one makes you feel bad, you make yourself feel what ever you want to feel.
the truth is that media bashed and lied for eight about the u.s.a ever day . now that the telleprompt king obama's in, get positive.........nobody watches them anyway. he calls himself a news anchor......editorialist is more like it!
Are you kidding me...this news media is why we are in the situation we're in today. More than report good news...they have to STOP editorializing the news...they're supposed to read it...not comment on it.
How can anyone actually still watch the news and be able to function. America is depressed and we can thank the news media for it...
STOP WATCHING THE NEWS!
With all due repect, we are not in the situation we are in because of the media. We are in the situation we are in because our government turned it's head while corperations and the top 1% did what they wanted to make billions for themselves. THE MONEY DIDN'T EVAPORATE.
Keep watching the news, demand more honesty, read and listen to different sources for news. It's not their fault, It's ours.
America is depresed because millions are out of work and have lost half of their retirement to speculators in the markets.
Your joking right. This has been asked for by people for years. In fact it was tried but they lost ratings so they stopped. The fact that the current political party in power may not benefit from the current reality of bad news for the economy makes this very suspicious. Especially when the current party is mostly responsoble for this do to past policies on housing lending that was not reversed under the the last adminstration. So both parties are to blame. But for anyone to call for this during this current political situation is as I said very suspicious.
The problem is that their "good" news, is not news at all, they are personal anecdotes. The propogation of these anecdotes as news will only serve to disguise the real trouble this country is in. If the news is dire, then we should be aware of it, and prepare accordingly. The media should stick to the facts, please.
Here is a liberal new mongrel asking for good news to report and what happens in 2 days he gets a stack of emails with good news the vast majority of them fellow Americans helping other fellow Americans. What is his response to this "It really told me something," he said. "I have learned a lot. I thought I knew all there was about the good nature of Americans, and this was a flood." Thought he knew it all. Can't believe people help each other instead of waiting for the Government to help them.... Sad truly sad... More was done in the emails to help people then Obama will do to help people in the next 4 years.... You think the ride is rough now just wait.
This is exactly what we need! Good news!!! Good point! Maybe we should just forget and ignore all those negative, racists, finger pointing and just plain venom that is being tossed all over the world!
Good News!! Good NEWS!!!
If it bleeds it leads.
GE bought NBC and Brian Williams to promote its products, this is just a gimmick to get people to watch NBC which has been tanking in ratings.
Hey Brian, must be a tough job reading the news from a teleprompter, heck even Obama can do that.
How about some real investigative reporting, maybe explore Barney Frank and why he opposed regulation of Fanni and Freddie? Or better yet, how about reporting on all the mercury that is in the light bulbs made by your owner GE, and how if you break one in your home you are supposed to call a hazmat team in for the clean up?
Absolutely correct Robert P. I believe that good news can and will turn the U.S. economy around. For more good news stories, Go to my column on the Vine.. R.Max
Good news doesn't always mean good samaritian tales. how about instead of 50 people died...millions lived. good news is all around us.
I don't watch the news, I watch comedies - laughter is the best medicine in good times and bad. Rent a good movie tonight, and leave the gloom and doom to the pessimists.
Truth breaks through the cloud of sarcasm.. Good job.. R.Max
I feel the media could be a catalyst in bringing about an upturn in the economy if they were not continually preaching doom and gloom.
If all you hear is bad, that's all you think is out there, and have no desire to make it better.
Three cheers for NBC for taking the initiative! We can only hope others will do the same!
The "big 3" networks are DEAD. If I want news, I surf the web, click into CNN, or FOX (ok, Fox is sometimes also as comic relief, fair & balanced...oh ya, sure). I get like 500 channels on my TV. I use MSN as my home page on my laptop, & cnn mobile on my smart-phone.
Really, they get 20 minutes during dinner hour to "report the days events". Too little, too late. Katie Curic is the latest Walter Cronkite. Gimmee a friggin' break (Katie was cute on the Today, but news anchor?!). Desperate, these networks. NOTHING to do with liberal, or conservative. "Network News" is sliding down the same path as the daily printed newspaper. Dinasors do die.
Along with the previous straight talk. I'd like someone to explain to me how Barnie Franks is responsible for the economic collapse of the World.
Seriously, he Chaired a Congresional Committee the last 2 years. He served with under a Republican President. Can someone please show me a link to the legislation that created this Finaicial Crisis that he slid under Bush's nose without Bush's signature? I'd love to read the Bill.
I've seen too many people referring to his connection for it to be just repeating rumor that they have heard. Those who KNOW these facts, please enlighten me. Show me the Law that Franks put into effect by himself, I'd love to read it.
We need to hear uplifting stories but we cant ignore whats happening. I nominated THE WANDERING WENCHES. The Wenches are 5 lovely girls who have hit the road in a tour bus and are filming a documentary about stories of truth, hope, and perseverance. I saw them on FOX News last night in Savannah. Im sick of having news shoved down my throat I admire what they are doing - taking the time to ask good Americans how THEY feel. I went to their site and boy they know how to get attention and unlike a lot of others they turn that attention into attention for those who REALLY need it.
screw these news people. Oh did you hear cramer is picking another bottom to the stock market. bo bo boyah my ass screw you cramer and cnbc
Here's Good News...
I have a cup of coffee and a donut to eat. I'm warm and I can still watch TV for a couple of more weeks. Had $200.00 sent to me from nowhere... and it was at a time that we really needed it.
As long as I'm still breathing there is still a hope. And I Thank God that we don't have to worry about good news in the afterlife. That has been taken care of by Jesus Christ!
We were talking about the Good News...right? Oh, that kind of news.....
The comment still stands!
And you know what the next headline will be, right? Obama inspires people to help others, to be charitable, to begin doing all they can to turn around the economy. Watch, these acts of 'good samaritans' will be attributed to Obama even though the only part Obama has played is to bring in the Krupps trencher from and that train-sized drill bit from Leipzig to dig the hole faster and bigger, that hole which was started under Bush with a shovel. America has been full of such great stories, the media just had a blind eye to it!!!! Well, until it was needed to help "bailout" their messiah.
Good news, you want good news. How about you and{ NBC, MSNBC} tanking in the ratings. You and your station are the epitome of hypocrisy. You cherry pick polls to suit your ideals, and you twist the truth constantly.I rank newscasters right up there with politicians and lawyers scum.
I was just discussing the fact that I don't want to watch the news anymore because it is so depressing. I recently lost my job and when you hear that the stimulis won't help the homeowners in CA it sends chills thru my bones, since I need help! Then all the job loss, banks going under, the stock market is unstable, GM and other car companies, etc, etc.. I personally just want to watch something good and funny or escape just for a little while from reality. So thank you so much for listening to your viewers and reporting on good news, happy hopeful news! Thank You!
Watch a Movie.
Until Obama keeps his arse in the White House and actually starts doing something on his own, instaed of of doing what he ONLY knows what to do and that is keep Campaigning.
He wants to keep it as it is,so that everybody is depressed,so that just anything that he DOES Do,will make him look like a Saviour !
Somebody.........Please tell him "He WON",and get off the Campaign Trail and go to Work!
But since he really hasn't got that sort of Experience,I think we're Screwed !
United Socialist States of Amerika is right around the corner people !
.
Excellent idea. I beleive that negative press is about 25% responsible for our current woes. Example , headlines in our San Diego newspaper last week. Recession causing suisides. Grr, read this , and have a nice day. There is a lot of good news out there , it just needs to be reported. Too much of the media has a " National Inquirer attitude".
greg,
I agree with you. To be honest, I would go as far as saying that the media IS the main cause of the crisis we have currently. It seamed to me that while we were not in a recession the media kept screaming that we were. Then it was like over night the economy started to fall.
It makes me think that because the media kept screaming the sky is falling when it wasn't, people started to beleive it and then it made what possibly was not that big of a problem into what we have today.
Perhaps if they start talking about the positives it will have an opposite affect on people behaviors.
Now if we could only get fair reporting and truthful stories. But hey this is a good start.
I agree. I think that the media began yelling "recession" before we knew everyone panicked and pulled back. Now the reports just continue to tell us there is no hope. I have heard about people contemplating suicide becuase they have lost their jobs, can't pay their bills, lost their homes, and can't handle it anymore - stop already.
If you believe this current crisis is due to the media, you are sadly ill-informed. You are completely ignoring the greed, and corruption perpetuated by Wall Street and the banking institutions in collusion with the Federal Reserve, and the Government's insistance on meddling with the free market.
The media can be a powerful tool of propaganda, but our case is truly dire, it is not a fanciful invention in the pusuit of ratings. To believe that it is, one would have to suspend reality, and enter a world that exists only in the imagination.
Can anyone say Pollyanna? The only people that weren't saying that we weren't in a very, very bad way was the previous administration. There are hundreds of books and articles written that warned us about what was coming. We just didn't believe them because we were afraid it was true.
This recession happened because of credit market issues and bad management. Do some research; don't just listen to conservative radio and your friends at the barber shop.
Greg, The national press should be held accountable for impacting everything from stock markets to housing markets, to you being laid off at work because consumers have been convinced not to by anything.. R.Max
The reason that the previous administration did not yell "Recession!" at the drop of a hat is two-fold.
First, that adminstration realized how the markets work. The minute someone in a position of authority sounds like an alarmist the markets tank. And the economy follows. Obama and his "advisors" don't get it. If he continues to preach that things are bad and will get worse, that's exactly what will happen. It may not sound right but it kind of goes along with the power of positive thinking.
Secondly, from about 2003 through about Sept. '08 the market was at 13-14,000. During the grand Clinton years it never went much over 12,000. And when the markets were at 15,000-plus, the media was still talking down the economy. Funny, during the Clinton years all we heard about was the great stock market-driven economy. For some reason, the same standards didn't apply during the Bush years.
I'll be the first to say Bush overspent but the economy was hanging in there during the vast majority of his tenure. It managed decent GDP gains even after things like 9-11 and 2 huge hurricanes in 5 years.
Those are unfortunately the facts not just some baseless accusation of conservative talk radio and "barbershop talk".
Besides, with the original topic being bad news / good news - it's pretty much a given that the news, whether local or national thrives on bad news.
If you watch your local news, you'll find that the entire first segment will be filled with the latest shooting, theft, fire or fatal accident. Not necessarily in that order.
The second segment is the fluff piece - Grandma So-and-So knits booties for homeless dogs or some new health break through for genital warts.
Then you come to the weather - which also leads with the worst news if there was a tornado, hurricane or blizzard anywhere in the country.
Finally you have sports. Hmmm. Steroids, spousal abuse, drunk driving, (or x-rated boat trips by the local pro football team here in Minnesota) Followed by the scores and "Highlights".
True enough Jay. Obama is in a tough situation. Should he hold the news as W most emphatically did ? Or should he preach reform that targets the down trend in our economy?
OFF TRACK.. Do you feel Jay, that good news can have a positive effect on the population as well as markets?
That's the point of the article. The human condition as well as mental peace of mind and the willingness to work through tough times requires a spark of hope from time to time. Do you agree?
Frankly, I thought this was a great idea. I thought, "I'll check N.V. and see if this strikes a positive nerve for once." Well, I log on and I have to say, you guys did not dissappoint. The same old negative, name calling mud slinging tripe as usual. This is one of the reasons we are so depressed, reading these posts are incredibly depressing and full of anger and venom, which is so typical of the Rush mentality. This is what drove me away from the Republican party (and the poor excuse for a president..Bush). If you have any hope for your party, you all need to step back and evaluate your attitude and behaviors or you will lose whatever is left of the party you have. I know of many people who have checked out of the RP for the same reasons. I think we need some optimism. The public does psychologically respond to the media, and right now we need all of the positive exposure we can get. I should have known you guys would want to keep wallowing in the mire of self loathing and anger. Jack, I'm with you...watch comedies not news. So to improve my mental state, I have decided that I need to not only stay away from the news, but newsvine. I need a break for my own sanity. You guys can have at it.
Karma, this isn't about mud slinging. This isn't just about the fact that the media did its best to trash Bush and the admin at every turn. The media was relentless making things much worse than they were in reality. Now that things ARE worse, they want to sugar coat it! GDP is two points under Europe and socialism! Helloooooo, is anyone paying attention? If Obama continues on his tax and spend campaign, we'll have nothing but doom and gloom and no amount sugar will help.
Obama has personally taken this country from a struggling economy and turned it into an all but failed economy. It WILL fail if he continues on this path. Even his supporters like Kramer & Matthews are bailing on him. You know you are in trouble when the man who all but has the "big one" when he sees you begins to question you.
This is a great idea. I am glad at least one network news division takes their viewers seriously. With the whole country basically taking Zoloft and not being able to watch the news without wanting to throw a brick through the TV, to ask viewers to suggest uplifting stories may have other networks laughing, but it is brilliant. What is wrong with ending a newscast with an uplifting story? One that shows Americans at their best. Stories that will inspire others. Like the man with the gas can. A "Pay it Forward" type story if you will. Something inspirational that will help us emotionally and maybe make us all get up off our couches and do something.
Ha! The way NBC covers the news...that's the best thing I heard all day!
for years the elite newcaster on nbc cbs abc cnn cnbc have thought that their s didn't stink however it do and frankly for years i have not watched the evening news because it is so biased that if they are saying something you know they are lying. they are not believeable
my grandma used to say: They think they are hot @!$%# on a silver platter - instead they are cold turd on a paper plate.
Watch Fox News!
Amen!! I watch Fox News also. MSNBC is a joke. I also, never watch the local news, except for the weather. After 9/11 I used to put money in parking meters as my small contribution. I know they don't like you too, but it is better than someone having to pay the government for maybe getting back to their car "1" min late. I oversee medical missions to Sierra Leone and other places in West Africa. I trust God for my future not the govenment, whether it is the Republicans or the Dems. We are bringing Hope to land does not have much. Seeing their faces the medical team arrives every year is worth it. Even though I have lost money in my IRA, I choose not to stress out about it. I believe in hope.
Believe in God. I trust God as well that is the reason I do not watch many of the news channels, especially FOX News. The few times I have watched and then did followup searches I have found that they have a much bigger problem with reporting the facts "truth" than any of the other networks. And that is saying a mouthful.
I remember a time when the mass majority believed what "Walter Cronkite" had to say. I was just a kid back then but I remember a lot of things. I remember when people believed in this country. I'm a veteran who used to believe in our country, who used to believe in our government, who used to believe what our media would report. I don't believe in any of those things anymore and I DAMN SURE DON'T BELIEVE BRIAN WILLIAMS SAYS OR ANYTHING HE BELIEVES IN..
I couldn't agree with you more, Steve. Watch Fox if you only want to hear one side of the news. I also have done a lot of follow up searches on subjects presented by all of the networks. Fox is the joke!
It's all opinion!
This has been entirely too long in coming. Peoples emotions are hinged, a lot, by what they see and hear, on any given day. The news agencies, and we all know it, have steered away from reporting and into the area of making news. It's simple economics. Heartache sells, and it sells a lot on television. We need more of this, and we need to feel good about ourselves as a people, because we are a good people. I applaude NBC for taking this step. Let's just hope that they keep it up. Anybody can preach negativity 24/7. How about some positive news for a change.
I agree with you completely. The news is depressing, but when the broadcasters put their own spin on it they make it seem like it is the end of the world with their so-called experts and what they think should be done. It wouldn't be so bad if they had been as diligent during the last eight years and maybe what we are going through now would have been avoided as the newscasters would have let us know 24/7, but they didn't. Now they want to tell us how bad it is and to blame the elected representatives who are trying to bring us out of our situation. As my mother use to say "when you lay down with dogs, you will get fleas" and this is where America is now, trying to get rid of the fleas that were caught by the Bush years in office.
your view is also myview. We all know what the media has done to the U.S. economy through it's quest for advertising dollars. Thats a givin.
Let's move forward. Let's change our world starting today by sharing more good news..
hello, I feel acts of kindness is wonderful and can be contagious..but often, it can be insulting to the heathens, the cheapo's and the insensitive..what I feel may be a good gesture, is to show American people enjoying life's simple pleasures of enjoyment..like a barbeque in a park, a small out door event, families having fun..ya know, people coping with inexpensive enjoyment..the message of humility, is a good thing..
Good news is as newsworthy as all the car crash, kidnappings, attacks, etc. stories they usually cover. I quit watching the news years ago because I hated all the bad stuff they reminded me was happening with none of the good (that I also knew was happening!) I subscribe to ODE magazine, which focuses on good work that people are doing, around the world, to make their world better. It's a real upper and well worth the time it takes to read (and save and share the stories too) that enrich me, rather than bring me down.
Go Brian - keep it up!
Brian Williams is brilliant! The first news reporter that understands how we feel. It is about time the media realizes it has responsibility for our nation, our worries, our concerns, and our mood. Too much negativity breeds more negativity. Give us hope and the future is limitless. I would love to hear more good news than bad from our network leadership and news anchors. Take the risk Brian Williams, and go for it. You'll find your contribution will change the world.
I think it was a greaaaaat idea that we get some positive news. I was so tired of listening how bad the economy was that I stopped watching any kind of news. We the viewers depend on the news, by feeding us all these negative news we have no choice but to get depress and feel like there's no hope. I hope all these other networks follows up. Greeeeaaaat Idea!!!!!
Thank you so much! A positive spin can be put on any day. I wish all news casts would contain more positive news.
Yes, please. There are so many people doing good in this world, and they deserve to be recognized. Focusing on them will drive other people to start trusting each other more and work together, and more positive actions will result!
Wasn't it common pratice not so long ago to end the news broadcast with a bit of good new?
Give me a break - Did Brian Williams ever attempt to ask report all the good things that happened when Bush was president? No, thenit was 15 minutes of doom and gloom to every 1 minute of positives. Now that NBC has their guy in the White House, they hope to highlight the happy stuff. I'm 57 and watched NBC all my life until the last couple years when their manipulation of the news in favor of liberal Democrats got to be too much for me to handle.
What are you stupid idiots talking about?! There really is NO rationale within the retardlican party is there. Here's an idea Doug, why don't you & the rest of your republican filth fk off & kill yourselves. That'd be the best news in decades!
OKGA,
Your response is typical of so many lazy, spoon-fed liberals. It's amazing how your "type" can spew venomous remarks like yours all day long, and no one ever calls you on the carpet. But let a convervative make the same hateful statement you've just made and they're called intolerant war-mongers.
Thank you for just confirming that YOU are the one guilty of intolerance............
Wow such hatred for the republicans.....You should be mad at your democratic party. They are the spendthrifts and somehow they believing in spending their into far more debt than ever before. I think you have your priorities in the wrong place there dude. Need to get off your lazy butt, get a job...stop asking for handouts and DO SOMETHING FOR YOURSELF...instead of sitting at home waiting for gov't handout!!!!
i think alot of problem is blaming the other party and voting only your party no matter the issue , if more politicions voted for good bills instead of voting for there partys bills we might have a govt that isnt all about finger pointing and then maybe they could agree that a bill is good or bad
If fear and resentment didn't sell Obama would never have had any platform to stand on. Scandals are what us boring people live for.
Yeah, let's pretend we're living in Fantasty Land. That's the ticket.
Yeah Susie _Whatever world you were on when Bush was Pres and Cheney was head of torture lying and fear. I got news for You, there truly wasn't any good news while Bush was President as the rich got richer, the greed grew, he told the mortgage companies to find ways to be inovative so every American could have a home. He lied about WMD in Iraq and skewed all intelligence to be the way the administration wanted. It was not hard to report bad news as that was all he was. The only good news was the day Bush and family got on that plane for the final trip to Texas and Cheney rolled his wheelchair out into the sunset. We were happy that day whether we were Republicans or Democrats.
If all the republicans killed themselves as has been suggested in this thread, then who would work, create jobs, and pay taxes? What WOULD the democrats do? How would they get the money for all of their pork projects? Sorry, we are the "necessary evil" and for my Republican and Libertarian friends, I KNOW you'll recognize that as sarcasm. I'm simply putting it on the record for the democrats who may not "get it" unless it's explained to them.
Patrickrover - There was good news, you just didn't want to hear about it because it didn't fit with your viewpoint.
By the way, the Clinton Administration - to specifically name names - Andrew Cuomo - designed the current Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac lending policy of giving a loan to anyone who can breathe not the Bush Administration. He wanted to get rid of that evil policy of making sure people could afford the loan before givng them the money. If they didn't have the income to pay back the loan they didn't get it. It was termed "Redlining" by the Democrat Party and they called it discrimination.
Funny, to really help your point along, the Obama Administration just last week announced it wants Freddie and Fannie to ease lending restrictions so more people can buy a home.
Hmm, must not have been one of the "failed policies of the past" Obama keeps talking about.
Off track JAAAAAY... Right your own article.. That would be GOOD news for those of us that are here to support the concept of positive news lifting the spirit of the Nation..
OKGA, do you really see yourself as a mature, intelligent citizen? Have you had a reality check lately? Your type is what has overtaken the Democrat Party and is destroying it. Yes, it may have control at the moment, but destroying it I mean turning it from a functioning political party into a crazed, lunatic radical group. Sheeple will continue to follow, but there are those who are beginning to see what conservatives have been trying to tell you all along. The crazies took over the asylum. No rational individual would post what you did. Sadly, you are NOT the exception among liberals. Of course, were a conservative to post such as you did, the FBI would be knocking down their door!
I so totally agree with this!!! If the news was more, "Don't worry, the market will come back" than, "The sky is falling" I don't think people would be panicking and pulling out of the market as much!!!! OR being afraid to get into it!!!
Then someone needs to tell our president! He is the source for the doom and gloom! After the conservative pundits blasted him for it and reminded him of his 180 degree change from his campaign of hope speeches, he finally said something positive in a speech. However, Obama's comment that he doesn't watch the daily actions of the stock market was excuriatingly telling. Daily movement? The stock market has tanked since the all time highs under Bush, declining now to less than half of the all time high. That is not just daily fluctuations, that is part of the reason for the stimulus I thought-to stimulate growth. Does he not understand economics?
Yeah! I live the doom and gloom in my daily life, so why watch it on the news.
With all the doom and gloom news coming out of the white house, it's no wonder everything we hear is so darned negative. The only change I've seen so far out of this administration is a change from hearing nothing about the Bush family to hearing everything about the Obama family. And who cares. He seems to be having fun throwing away our money. Hey, that's a positive thing, right? At least someone can spend money, even though it does not belong to them.
Obama's vacationing at Camp David this weekend. Didn't he go last weekend too? Must be nice.
Oh please - how can you get on Obama for being at Camp David, when W spent probably a third of his time at the ranch in Crawford? Let's be fair here.
You know, even after reading this article I got tears in my eyes. I work for a non-profit organization (guess, concerns the heart) and I read stories of miraculous life saving acts by doctors and nurses and many, many family members and those helped talk about their renewed faith in humanity. Then again, I read stories about those who have been beaten down with debt because they have a life-threatening illness or attack that leaves them penniless and without hope. I just read a story yesterday (subject: Survivor That Has Been Discarded). She had a heart attack, was saved, only to come home to find that her husband left her after many years of marriage (with a very young woman) and no information where he might be, she is penniless with the exception of her job that only nets her $700/mo. She lost the house and moved into an apartment, she can pay her rent and must play roulette with her utilities and fears that all will be turned off soon. She doesn't have money to buy expensive fruits and vegetables and must eat what she can scrap up enough money to buy. She purchases her medicine and cuts everything in half so she can save money. I could not get this woman out of my mind. Of course, there is no way I can reach her to help her just a little. My fear is that I may someday end up just like she.
Reporters are supposed to report the news - not create it. How about just reporting the news and stop sensationalizing everything. I am so tired of the editorializing. We learned in journalism classes to report on the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY and HOW. don't add the because.
I've long been convinced that the steady stream on gloom and doom is part of the reason we can't begin to turn things around. It has a become a self-full-filling proficy with the media churning it to keep people tuning in. Time to take some steps in to the future which will only be as bleak as we allow it to be. Some good news is a good place to start. Bravo
DUH, Paul Harvey ended his newscast for years with something upbeat and funny. Brian is shocked to know of all the good being done because he thinks we need the government to force us to do it with community service (slavery), and forcefully taking money from the productive members of society and giving it to the unproductive. His lack of awareness of the good in America belies the fact that he doesn't realize what a great country we live in. If the government would get off our wallets, and out of our way we would pull ourselves TOGETHER and TOGETHER get beyond this recession in short order. You don't spend yourself deeper into debt in order to get out og debt.
Why now? Why didn't the liberal BHO media want to air good news stories when Bush was president? Why does the BHO media want to do this now? Oh, thats right, the BHO media wants to keep all the sheeple distracted. The BHO media doesn't want the sheeple to know that BHO is trying to cram his socialist/communist agenda down our throats. Come on, sheeple wake up before you are completely sheared!!!!! Well, I want to let the BHO media know that 1/2 this country is not fooled by this new BS plot to distract us freedom loving, USA loving, USSA hating citizens. BHO is already the worst president we have ever elected and close to 50% of the people that voted for BHO are already having voters remorse and the BHO media knows this and are starting to panic!!!!
Just keep watching fox news then. I'm sure they tell you what you want to hear.
It'd be good news to me to hear that taxes were being tripled for rock gut republican scum like peppy here. Moron.
OKGA,
Once again, you just confirmed my comment made above.................

Welcome to Fantasy Island.
Fantastic idea. Even 'up here' in Australia the media is much the same. So don't think that there is anything unusual about the USA scribes.
However, what I also think is needed is for people to start talking things up. Lending a hand when we can. The people of Australia raised over $210 million for those impacted by the recent fires in Victoria, that's a good news story!
Conventional wisdom says that good news isn't newsworthy.
I disagree.
There are many people doing wonderful work. Not to make it political, but I don't think we need the government to tell us to be kind to our neighbor. We are the kindest and most giving nation and if you stop worrying about bringing the rich down and just let the normal flow of life happen, we will all take care of each other. The vast majority of us are great people who would help everyone. Look what happens whenever there is a disaster or go to any community and see the free physicals being given by medical students or the free car seats provided to keep kids travelling safe, or the free dental care, or the mobile blood pressure units, or the coats brought to local schools in the winter. It happens every where, every day and I fear that what is happening in the government now will put an end to it. Who wants to be told they have to help, can't we just choose to do it because we know it's the right thing?
