Coen brothers take aim at 'clean coal' in TV ad

The moviemaking Coen brothers, who won Academy Awards for "Fargo" and "No Country for Old Men," have turned their sardonic sights on the coal industry.

Just below this article reads a headline, "Rare snow covers south" We must stop this global warming propaganda, it is being pushed due to the huge amount of money to be made by taxation by the "Green" proponants. I worked in the solar cell industry for 6 years. It is heavily subsidized by tax dollars and creates a huge carbon and chemical waste footprint. I now work in the power industry at a coal fired plant. There is no black smoke coming out of the stack, in fact I did not even know the plant existed before woking there even though I drove past it for the past 25 years. It also has safer and cleaner working conditions than a solar silicon plant. Now consider windmills, which I can see from the roof of where I work. They rarely turn during the coldest parts of winter of hottest days of summer, when they are needed most. And most of their materials like solar cells come from oversees manufactured using electricity from what? Coal plants in China! Get real people.

It's embarrassing to encounter someone like you who thinks that just because there's a cold snap, suddenly global warming doesn't exist. Learn to read.

No what is embarrassing is to have to put up with people like you Kacky who only view one side as the truth when over 31 thousand scientists disagree with the theory of Global warming. If all the scare tactics that these Hollywood idiots and others use ars considered proof it leaves a lot to laugh at name me any Environ group that is not using it to make money. Even Gore made and is still making money off of the so called helping the environment. Pickett owned windmill tech. and natural gas co.s. The natural gas co.s are of course pushing their product as the BEST to save the world. The only reason that YOUR scientists are "Right " is because of Money which equals politicians which equals media. Right now if Obama said the sun was going to burn out tomorrow unless we did away with yellow cheese the media and others would swear it was the truth. Two sides to every story, but look at the facts this has been the coldest winter on record all over the globe, the ice pact that "Experts" said was melting and had disappeared, has been found and not melted, and is still at the ice cap ,there is a town that is in danger of being destroyed by a GROWING glacier, now the environ fanatics have declared CO2 (a natural gas not man made) as a hazardous gas. They come up with, stuff like we must find a way to control cow farts before they destroy the earth???. Mother nature has done what needed to be done for a long time,if and when she decides enough is enough she will right the wrongs and fix the problems. Do things need changing? Yes!! But to just go blindly and completely overboard as these environ groups including our new President is doing is not in the best interest of the people who work in the coal industry or who get any power from any of the coal fired plants. Any idiot who spouts "There is no such as clean coal" has not and does not read anything other then these media controlled sources. Read the science and tech sites on the subject try STORM Technologies. you are another one who makes statements that are not true and not researched. If you can't do any better then repeat media hype why bother

This is easy all who oppose the use of coal for electric production go out to the meter on the side of you house and remove it.
If all of the supporters of reality.org were to do this we will reduce out coal use by that much.
I will point out that coal can be converted to gas and diesel fuel easily and with that simple thing we would reduce out payment balance by a great deal and a little side effect is that Hamas and all other Muslim terrorist organizations will run out of money

The cleanest supply of wide-spread energy comes from nuclear energy. The major concern is the waste and where to put it. Sell it to Iran. They can recycle it into useable fuel again. Or, just drop it on Iran. Either way, they get their nukes.

Well I see your education does not exceed your knowledge of "global warming". I love it when people think global warming means only warmer weather. You obviously have the Internet. Use your Google knowledge to look up what "global warming" actually means. Then look up the process of using coal powered plants and what happens before and after using coal.

Your name says it all you see and believe one side and have to label anyone who does not agree or who has an opposing view as uneducated or stupid. I guess that goes for the 31k scientists who say either Global warming is not real or that it is a normal event. Well may be you in your great wisdom can explain why they are wrong and your experts are correct. Just don't use the reason of politics or media including the self centered people from the entertainment business who jump on any America, the world, non, entrainment people, are ruining the world bandwagon. You know those people who think Micheal Moore makes movies using FACTS. In case you think he does, he doesn't. Or should I clarify that he uses facts as he See's them. Kind of like some one who makes a movie from a book and changes it to make a different story so it makes more money for them.

          Global warming-

          Evolution-

          The survival of the fitest-

All a part of a global life cycle- It's like trying to live forever. It's not going to happen. This planet has a life span, it's a living thing. Maybe we are hastening the enevitable, maybe it's just going through a cycle to the next cycle. We can prove, as well as disprove, whatever we want, based on the data we use. That's been proven time and time again.

I beleive that we must do what we can to preserve as much s possible, but, not at the expense of the current residents of this wonderful planet. We have evolved into hte consumers we are, by developig the technology we have. Who is not to say that we are saving some other resource by utilizing the ones we use now? The world will not come to an end when the useable oil reserves are consumed. THe world will continue. Just without some of it's inhabitants. The remaining folks will have the foresight to utilize the next consummable energy source until it is depleted, then, the cycle will continue again.

As George Carlin so eloquently put it---"When Mother Nature tires of us, she will shake us off like a bad case of fleas."

Of course their is discharge of gases from burning coal. And now it is cleaner than 30 years ago. However is it really fair to blast black smoke from a can, state there is no such thing as clean coal technology, then not offer to spend billions of taxpayer and ratepayer dollars to subsidize the persuit of clean coal technology. They are willing to spend our money on Solar and wind. That is what is being forced upon us with this "Sky is falling" agenda of persuasion. You don't have to be convinced, but you have to agree with them and you have to pay.

The government seems Hell-bent to spend the most money on the least efficient energy sources. Solar? Wind? Geothermal?

Why not PICK ONE, and put all of your energy into developing IT, instead of spreading the money around, trying to create SEVERAL different energy infrastructures, when only one will end up being "The ONE", and the rest will fall by the wayside, along with the billions that were put into it.

And, Why not invest in Nuclear energy? It's a proven source of wide area energy, it's probably the cleanest working, useable energy source out there, and it fits nicely into the exsisting infrastructure.

It does not allow links to other web sites until you have been using the site for a while and have shown that you can be trusted not to put up porn links, or advertising, etc... I am capable and posted the link above for your viewing pleasure.

OK so Its not the best way to produce power. No one wants Neuclear power either.

Can anyone offer a viable alternative, now, or in the next 5 years ?

Do you honestly think that wind or solar power can handle the demand for power?

We have to continue with what we have until technology catches up.

The same people that scream about coal power would scream even louder if their power was cut off.

                    Get real

There is technology available today that can remove all of the CO2 and SO2 from the exhaust gasses of coal fired power plants. The power industry is using these technologies rignt now. When the only byproduct from coal fired power plants is water vapor then that's clean coal technology at its best. The Coen brothers should stick to making movies.

The Coen brothers should keep their day job and leave the science up to scientists & engineers. One commercial of theirs that I have seen attempts to say that more coal fired power plants will blanket the nation in soot. This is completely erroneous, but effective marketing that will convince the unknowing. They made no reference to Global Climate Change and is a different argument.

Since the enviro-nuts want to tear down existing hydro-electric and do not want to expand fossil fuel (gas & coal) fired power plants, the only reliable alternative is nuclear. Solar & wind generation are not continuous and energy storage to support their ebb is not yet available.

By golly! Those dastardly right wingers did it again. Imagine. Calling in a near blizzard just to frustrate our march today.

Global warming is probably happening right now. To blame it all on puny man or to delude yourself that a species that can not even accurately predict the weather can do anything about it is a bit ridiculous. The planet was doing fine before the naked ape ever got up on his hind legs and it will be doing fine when we all join the dinosaurs. Talk about hubris! Better to start thinking about how to survive in a changing world than making a fool of yourself hooting and hollering in a snowstorm.
